Really sorry if this has been covered already, I did a quick search but admittedly it was a pretty superficial affair.

Just wondering, would it be possible for searches (particularly useful in the swap shop) to automatically include GK with searches of Grey/Gray Knight? And also if it were possible to refine searches within the swap shop into two separate lists of 'wants/[W]' or 'have/[H]', so when looking to trade for IG, etc, you only get results of people offering them?

Annoyingly the search engine cant index words less than 3 letters long due to efficiency requirements. As such, IG/GK/etc would still get ignored. It is a failing with the search engine as it exists at the moment and unfortunately the only option is to encourage people to write out the full, proper names of armies in their titles.

Could you force it to search for "gk ", i,e, two letter acronyms with space before and/or after? Wouldn't that be all of four characters?

I'm afraid that the search engine is a specifically engineered system designed to be efficient (so we dont get crippled by searches like many other forums). As a result, it trims all whitespace and formatting as part of its internal functioning.

That's a shame, but thanks heaps for your time in answering the question. What about the other half regarding being able to filter searches into [W] or [H] results to easily separate sellers and seekers?

As a side note, I really appreciate you guys running a really top notch free website, I'm really only bringing this up because I thought this might make things easier, not because I'm ungrateful so to Dakka

The search engine in the swap shop could be a lot better and a dedicated system that makes filtering much easier is very long overdue. I'm absolutely backlogged for the near future though so cant promise anything in a reasonable timeframe beyond stating it is something I am aware of and looking to improve upon.

I have a question:

Since you already have the "abbreviation to meaning" javascript function that triggers onmouseover, and it appears to be inserted into the post itself couldn't you just trigger checking the abbreviation and then indexing the full word when you hit the abbreviation in the indexer?

I mean, ultimately, you have to test each word length before throwing it out. How much more complexity would testing the word to see if it's an abbreviated word and then referencing it in the table you keep the popup in be, rather than actually indexing every 2 and 3 letter word? (Genuine question. I don't know myself.)
