Hello Dakka Dakka, i've been thinking of investing in my own copy of Company of heroes and it's expansions, however i was wondering if it would be more economical to try and buy a company of heroes 2 red star collection where the original games are included or buy a Company of heroes complete edition and then buy Company of heroes 2 after that.

Personally as a huge CoH fans i would say just buy the origianl and all it additions.

CoH 2 has been a major disappointment for myself and my clan, it just not gelled with any of us and we have found ourselves already returning to the first one. Perhaps if its cheap go for it, but don't pay anything close to full price, at least not till it gets custom map support.

To be fair, both games where and still are pretty bad, the game aways boils down to whom either spams the most tanks, or just brings a swarm of other units. Had the games actualy demanded the players to use their minds a bit I would be more inclined to recomend them. Save your money and use them on something else.

Get the regular CoH and the blitzkrieg mods. It fixes some problems, and while it does create some others, it is far more fun than the vanilla version (at least in the opinion of me and my friends)

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

I played a lot of CoH multiplayer and this just isn't true. Yes tanks are powerful but they have counters and the Rifleman blob approach (which is what I assume you mean by a swarm) did work for a while but it was soon patched out. In additon the victory point mechanic means that the game is always fuild, you just can't turtle and hope for the best.
If you want a fast paced RTS game then you could do a lot worse than play CoH.

CoH2 on the other hand plays exactly like the original but the single player campaign is worse and the multiplayer balance is woeful (although this may well have been improved since release). Buy the first one and its expansions, they will be cheap now, but I woulnd't recommend buying the second.

The prefect example of someone missing the point.
Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed on all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to us all.

Its just a shame that they couldn't fight off Andy Chambers.

CoH2 is good. I think a lot of the disappointment isn't with its game mechanics so mucha s the fact that it's TOO similar..

which is a complaint I always found weird. I WANT my sequels to be similiar to the first game.

Red Alert is one of my favorite games of all times and the only difference between it and the first game is just a bunch of very minor changes like a handful of new units, visual differences, and two new campaigns.

These days, I don't see the point of buying a sequel if its changes are merely cosmetic and I'm basically just playing the first game but reskinned.

Yea, that's what DLC is for these days.

"So, do please come along when we're promoting something new and need photos for the facebook page or to send to our regional manager, do please engage in our gaming when we're pushing something specific hard and need to get the little kiddies drifting past to want to come in an see what all the fuss is about. But otherwise, stay the feth out, you smelly, antisocial bastards, because we're scared you are going to say something that goes against our mantra of absolute devotion to the corporate motherland and we actually perceive any of you who've been gaming more than a year to be a hostile entity as you've been exposed to the internet and 'dangerous ideas'. Well thanks for all the replies guys,i'm going to stick to CoH1 with a few good mods then instead of buying both CoH1 and CoH2.

I'd recommend Blitzkrieg then as your first mod stop, its a blast. While it can be a bit frustrating sometimes, say when you are up against germans and they are officer-barraging you to smithereens and you just can't kill them quickly enough, it remains challenging, at least for us.

Thanks i'll look into that mod, i've also been wondering if i should look into the Eastern front mod as well since a new faction is always welcome in my book.
