Hi guys,

So there's a mini tournament coming up soon at my FLGS, and I'd like to do pretty well in it. It's not a super-competitive affair (i.e. I'm playing against friends) but I'd still like to win. The games are designed to be fast, so it's 600 points, with no other restrictions. My local meta mostly composes of Tau, Space Marines and Necrons with the odd Imperial Guard or DE player thrown in. I'd like to see how Dakka thinks this list would hold up, especially against the new Space Marine dex, which I know very little about.

Anyway, here's the list:

---------------------------

(Changes in red)

HQ

Farseer (105)
Singing Spear

Troops

9 x Dire Avengers
(147)
Exarch w/ PW + Shimmershield

5 x Dire Avengers (200)
WS w/ TL Scatters and Holo-Fields

3 x Jetbikes (51)

Fast Attack

5 x Warp Spiders (95)
TOTAL: 598

------------------------------

So the plan is for the Dire Avengers to advance and kill stuff. The Farseer and Spiritseer both join the footslogging Dire Avengers, making them tough to kill. Farseer usually gets Fortune and the Spiritseer defaults one power to Conceal, so, if I stick to cover, they should be flaunting a re-rollable 3+ save, if not 4+. The WS goes and kills stuff and is my only real plan against any enemy fliers there might be. The Jetbikes stay in reserve and try and hang around to grab last minute objectives.

Let me know what you think, Dakka!

Dump the spirit seer and gear off the farseer. For that 90 points, I think you can get a squad of warpspiders. If its 95, consider dumping 1 DA to make it happen. There is very little better than 10 STR 6-7 shots, deepstriking with the possibility of AP1 for the points. Their first turn they can probably outkill the spirit seer all game.

Also, it gives you much needed anti-vehicle. (10, STR 7 shots on rear armor messes stuff up) A bright lance on the serpent is another thought.

Yeah, Warp Spiders are a good idea actually, I did want to try and squeeze some in. A basic squad is 95 points.

I really want to keep the Spirit Stone though. It's been very useful for me, being able to cast Fortune + Guide + another power. I'll see if I can work around it. Points are tight though. I guess.

Dropping the Spiritseer, the Spirit Stone and a Dire Avenger gives me 100 points to work with. That's a Warp Spider squad plus 5 points of stuff.

I usually prefer to drop the upgrades and go for more bodies as well. The Spiders will work well. You could also try to shift those points into heavy support for a fire prism or a wraithlord, the latter of which can be really hard for your opponents to deal with at that point level.

Yeah, Fire Prisms are brilliant, but it's pretty hard to fit one in at this points level, it was hard enough to find the 95 points for the Spiders.

I guess I could fit the Prism in, but it would mean dropping so many of the foot Dire Avengers that the tactic would be useless.

ya, fire prims are nice, but you would have to drop to much in my opninion to make it worth it. i would just get those spiders and be happy

Alright then, thanks for your help so far guys.

I dropped the Spiritstone, the Spiritseer and the Shuiricannon on the Jetbikes (I decided bodies in the DA squad was more important) and put the Spiders in.

How's it looking now?

Well, the local scene is roughly as follows:

Necrons: The staple amongst all Necron players is a Destroyer Lord with MSS in a unit of Wraiths, Deathmarks with a Cryptek with Template of IGoAgainstYourLdButWoundOn2+Anyway in a Transport Flyer (I forget which one), usually another Flyer or two in there, and then a 1-3 squads of footslogging Immortals/Warriors. There's the one guy (well actually there's two, but the second rarely appears) who takes multiple Annihilation Barges and/or CCBs. And a C'tan shard is always popular.

Space Marines: Quite a few DA players with the usual Deep-Strike heavy lists. Two Imperial Fists players who like using Lysander. There's a BA player too. There's two SW players but one takes really uncompetitive armies, the other is just bad. The rest are just "normal" armies really. I've never had a problem with them, especially with Eldar.

Tau: There's about 2-3 typical gun-line armies. There's one guy who takes multiple Riptides, but he's terrible, so I don't worry about him.

DE: Not Venom-Spam, oddly. One guy takes a mainly CC army with Wyches/Incubi. The other takes a lot of Trueborn and one or two Venoms, plus a flyer and a Ravager.

IG: Three players, though I imagine one will be using DA instead. They're mostly just standard gunlines. The two I think will use IG like tanks.

CSM: One guy likes Nurgle Bikers, the other likes Khorne Beserkers. Not really worried about these guys, all though one does use a Helldrake or two fairly often.

Daemons: A flying circus player. The only guy who's ever beaten me regularly.

Obviously, this is at higher points levels, there's be a lot less at 600pts, but obviously we rarely play that low. It's not a tough local scene really, I'm only really worried about the Necron Players (who are all competent), one IG player, this one Tau Player (and markerlights concern me in general) and the Flying Circus guy (but I can't imagine it being half as bad at 600).
