Hi All this is a new project i just started 2 weeks ago.

Aiming to make a competitive 1750 nid list. The aim was to make a bug list using airbrush and oil washes in a very fast time. I have painted a bug army before in 4th edd and spent ova 600+ hours painting it. It was the same red and bone as the codex cover so for this army i wanted to do something very very different. I wanted a very dark natural/real looking cockroach like bugs in a dirty swamp.

i also wanted to do this army in around a month to get ready for nidvember drop then just add to it. So that being said this is all about speed so their will be mistakes and is not my best std as im at the point were i just need a painted army on the table painted to tabletop std so i can play in tournaments.

Once i get all the army finished i will go back over and clean up all the small details like eyes and highlights were needed.

so i made a big bulk order

2 flyrants
2 tervigons
1 trygon
70 shooty gaunts
24 stabby gaunts
10 gargoles
3 zoans
2 spores from mr dandys
100+ varied size swamp bases from secret weapon.

[/img]

[/img]

This was my test mini. Was a bit dangerous to start on the best looking model in the army but i wanted to make sure it looked good on the big bug as the little guys can look underwhelming in dark colours.

[/img]

I wasn't 100% clean when starting the hive tyrant if i was going to do a diffirent colour for the wings but i just kept it the skin colour to save time.

[/img]

[/img]

a bit of a closeup of the bases. this one is still a little cloudy as its yet to dry clear. but still gives a better look off the base.

got a heap of gaunts and gargoles done. Have now done 20 gargoles and have all base colours done for another 70 shooty gaunts and 24 stabby gaunts.

The big guys are taking around 5-6 hours to do and i can finish a whole unit of 10 gaunts in around the same time. now that i have done my test gaunts i will do all of them at the same time.

[/img]

am woking on both the tervigons atm and am ready to start doing the highlight on the carapace and oil washing and assembling.

also did 80 bases to this point were i have applied one layer of water effects and let it dry making the moss rock hard. I pin the models into place before doing another layer of water effects so they are ankle deep in water/slime.

That's it, I'm throwing away all my paint's, brushes and burning my models...

Amazing job! I'd buy them!

Excellent work.

And THANK YOU for qualifying your talent level by stating that you have also painted a bug army before at 600+ hours of effort using regular techniques.

Alot of people these days think they can just buy an airbrush after seeing some youtube vids and get the results you're showing. You obviously have several years of foundation skills, and the airbrushing is just a solid addition to that.

But back to the work at hand! Those bases are sweet, very similar to the ones I did for my Hordes Farrow army. Making them 'wet' like that really adds to the ambiance.

When you get the painting done- any chance that you might be going back to add some modelling touches like water running off the lower portions of the bigger bugs? Maybe some splash effects or ripples? On the 25mm bases its not really needed, but on those bigger bases the big guys look a tad static- adding the ripples and motion to the water could be the last detail to really make them dynamic

Cheers for the comment. Yes i have been painting for years but that being said i have had a fair break. i came back into the hobby 2 years ago and like many others was amazed at the levels people have taken the painting std with new techniques. So i went on youtube myself and saw people using airbrushes, oil washing, NMM metals etc etc.

i just use the airbrush as a tool to do base colours and shading. you still need to do details bases and some highlights even when using airbrush. Infact the trick most people go for these days is to use an airbrush and make it look like you havn't by using washes oils.

I will go back over all the mins to do touchups and i had not though about the bases and doing riples. that will look good. the small bases are fine but the trygons base does look a bit flat compared to the tyrants.

hopefully get the 2 tervigons done in the next few days then start on some hormagaunts and devilgaunts.

How do you pin the gaunts to the bases?

I only had a brief look at some and they seemed to have a very small conection point to the plastic bit that slides into the base.

I cut the tab bit off and just superglued the little hoof to the base. Then when adding the water affects that holds it in place also.

a few more pics of a bit of a work in progress with my 2 tervigons as with other diarys i have done i like to do a few finished and unfinished pics. still need to do the base on this guy and paint the 2 little bugs that hang out the sack. wasnt sure what to do with them. maby get some uho glue and make them all slimey and have some afterbirth piling out onto the base. prob something i will play around with after the mojoraty of the army is finished when i go back over and do details.

the base still needs to be done but this is a really good photo of how much the oil wash changes the model. This is the obviously before the oil wash.

as this is going to be a fast army i will be uploading hopefully 2 squads a week.

I'm assuming you spray all the pieces (for large and small models) before assembling them?

i assemble all the small ones and yes the big ones i do spray peice by peice as in above picture with the tervigons.

the bases are done by hand as are the highlights on the small ones. the oil wash and cleanup by hand also so really their 50/50 airbrush and normal brush.

my aim was to use airbrush without the airbrush look ASL glowing etc etc.

Awesome Paint Job man! Love the army.

As I don't get the chance to play too many Tyranid armies, pardon the dumb question, but what are your tyrants armed with?

its not a dumb question. I iust use then as twin linked devourers with brainleach worms. This wep option isnt on the tyrant spru so these army were out of the tervigon set. I have no idea what they are. I have only tack glued the arms on as their may be better wep options with the new dex. They dont look like devourers but theu do look like a wep that shoots 12 twin linked shoots that are worms.

Oh, another question I forgot to ask - what airbrush do you use? I used an Iwata when I dabbled with automotive airbrushing...but that was years ago in a refinishing program

I have 2. Badger renagade evo. And my other is harder and steenbeck 2 in 1 ultra. The harder is an awsome airbrush as it has both a .2 and .4 needle that helps alot.

So havnt been able to get alot done in last few days is i was working all weekend and the afl gf. i have also run out of my main highlight colour light brown so that will put the brakes on being able to get my doom and other pod done before this weekend.

Anyway have smashed out this spore pod. their is alof of skin so have tried to add colour with the carapace and along the side spines. The blue really stands out on this and matches in well with the talons on the other MC'S

well mixed a few colours to make the light brown so i could do my doom. this is just a stand in until they relese the actual model. so this was just a quick job.
