If I deploy a squad of Blood Claws from a non-assault transport, and they are within 6 inches of an enemy unit, what happens? Can they still charge? Can they fire their weapons instead? or do they do nothing that attack?

They must launch an assault "if at all posible".
It isn't possible, because they are forbidden from assaulting after disembarking.
However if within 6" they still can't shoot...

Which is why the rule seems broken to me, the rule is supposed to represent them running into an assault without hesitation, but standing there for an entire round doing nothing sounds a hell of a lot like hesitating.

Or, you know, taking time and effort to disembark...

Stick a character in the unit then, avoid the problem.

I dont know if you have played this game before, but there are these things called Drop Pods. Now when a drop pod scatters 1 inch from the enemy, you will still get units within 6 inches.

ah, but drop pods are assault transports, designed for you to thump into the ground with such force that marines go flying into the enemy like angry shrapnel

Drop pods are open topped. Different rules apply. Don't like it, play 5th ed where the rules were different.

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

Yes. Absolutely.
What's your point again? You obviously missed mine.

In that turn's Assault phase, however, these units cannot charge. This also applies to units that have disembarked from Transports that arrived by Deep Strike that turn. (Deep Strike pg 36).

Also... from Main Codex FAQ

Q: Do Transports with the Assault Vehicle special rule permit
their passengers to charge on the turn they arrive from Reserve?
(p33)
A: No.

To the OP, no unit, however described in the fluff, can assault out of a non-assault transport. If you'd like them to shoot, just add a character.

My point was that the rule isn't broken, even taking into consideration the fluff.
They're not hesitating. They're getting out of the tank.

That, is just what I was clarifying, the BC would just hop out and do nothing but get shot to pieces. Yet another reason to not use BC.

Blood Claws are worse than Grey Hunters in almost every way, including the assault phase. Blood Claws might be better on the charge, but worse in the long run due to their lower WS. There's no way they should be the same points. Regardless, you have your answer.

Its only an issue because its a older Codex playing in the 6E sandbox.

And I agree, Blood Claws are way too expensive, but Grey Hunters are way too cheap so it balances out (at 14 ppm apparently!)
