My brothers and i recently got into WH40k and my youngest brother is in need of some help to get his Salamander list together. Currently he has available to him to use:
HQ
Vulkan
Captain
Elite
5man terminator squad
1 dreadnought
FA
2 5man assault squads
2 land speeders
Troops
3 10man tactical squads
1 rhino
2 5man scout squads

Any and all help would be appreciated.

Heya guys welcome to 40k.
I have found big tactical squads to be pretty weak. They spend half the battle out of range and their heavy weapons cant move unless snap shot.
Dreadnoughts also I have found to be rather expensive yet get killed very fast.
Have you looked at Sternguard? Those guys are very versatile and can really bone things like montrous creatures and cover happy campers like eldar.
You have no heavy support, I would consider a thunderfire cannon or a couple of whirlwinds. This could suit a gunline approach. Forcing the enemy to come into the mass of your troops
At the end of the day get some games under your belt, you will find what works with your playstyle.

terminators are solid with vulkan, 2 5 man assults do well with flamers, jump packs off, in drop pods. 2 land speeders could be used as land speeder storms, with the scouts. tac squads in 5 man with lots o heavy weapons can be nice.

hope that helps

Mostly Plastic Crack, but I do dabble in Cardboard Cocaine.
