Very new to space marines starting up an army, not exactly following a specific chapter yet but here it goes

4 five man tac squads each with a melta (or some special gun)-320

5 man assault squad with 2 flamers in a drop pod-95

I figured that is just a lot of meq bodies to deal with at 500 points, I wont be playing against a heldrake or anything yet so that is not of concern. Mainly tau and csm.

The other variation of this, that is a lot more for fun would be a black hands list for the it will not die and you will see why..

shield of eternal

He will be really hard to stop especially with it will not die xD

By 4 tac squads, do you mean 2 tactical squads split into 4 combat squads ? Don't quote me on this but i believe the more powerful weps tacticals can take can only be used when in a 10 man tactical squad (which can then be split into 2 combat squads as you set up your game). And also, two of those combat squads can take melta guns, but the other two will have to take a type of heavy weapon, as the codex says you take 1 different assault weapon (the melta) and one heavy weapon (rocket launcher, lascannon etc). Just so you know. And at the bottom where you say "5 man space marine squad with plasma" is that also supposed to be a combat squad ? Because to have a plasma gun/cannon (you don't specify which) the squad needs to have been split from the original 10, and you can't have 2 special assault/heavy weapons, but one of each. For ease of interpretation, i would say: Ten man tactical squad with melta and plasma cannon (or plasma gun and "insert available heavy weapon here"), will split the two special weapons into separate 5 man combat squads. Plasma guns would make sense if up against other Marine armies, however that would mean choosing between that or the melta. As a 500 pt list, plasma guns would make more sense than melta's because there won't be much armour to take on in such a small game (which would kind of waste the melta special rule), and will be much more effective against space marine armies as the AP value will ignore a 3 plus save. I can't rate how you have equipped your chapter master as i won't have a copy of the new codex until tomorrow. If you could clarify which squads are 5 man tactical squads, and which are 10 man tactical squads that intend to split into 2 combat squads, i would be able to help you more where the rules are concerned.

200+ on one guy who may make combat seems like alot so list 2 not so much. As for list 1 it is a few bodies but very immobile and melta guns would struggle to reach a target. Assault armies and fast ones will make it tough for a victory for you.

You have some survivability and a fair bit of firepower but execution will be tough.

To put it simply with the new codex a five man tactical/combat squads can now use 1 heavy OR 1 special weapon. That is why I have it as four five man squads so I can either use a lot of heavy weapons or special weapons. I was thinking special so I could be moving constantly. Yes I can see how mobility would be an issue, hmmmmm any suggestions on that? I am rather new to space marines as I said xD thank you guys!

well for the second list it would be great for yuor chapter master to have a bike.... T5!!!

dont know where your gonna get points for it, but first list could use drop pods

With rhinos I am torn because, if I have a heavy gunner won't I want him shooting and in the back? Not driving around snap firing? So would razor backs be better to start out with?

Also is it possible to do I type of foot marines list? Staying away from tanks with maybe a few drop pods, and some storm talons in the future?
