Throughout history there have been a lot of individuals and military groups who are, to put it bluntly, epic.

This thread is to share the people and units who really deserve a place in 40k - whether its a fighter like Musashi or 'Mad Jack' Churchill or a band of soldiers whose gear and tactics are unique if it does not exist in 40k and should, post it up!

Personally I would like to see an Empire of Japan type IG (since they actually had a unit called the Imperial Guard), with Guntō swords, a fair selection of high-tech goodies (plasma guns, etc), a love of bayonet charges and some fun unique characters.

When you look at it most Asian armies got overlooked by GW despite being pretty good looking (they went for Nam' styled Catachans but not anyone who came from Asia... Just saying)

Sikh troops have a good look that could fit into the 41st millennium better than some things...
Spoiler:

And speaking of cultures that got ignored, would Native American styled guard not be awesome?
Something like this image from the internets

I feel like it's really easy to get into racist territory if you have an Imperial Guard regiment based on native Americans, tomahawks and all. I like the nods to them in the Deathwing designs and names (in the old fluffy anyway) though.

The troops in that Japanese art you posted look actually very similar to Mordian Iron Guard. Yeah, the Mordian uniform looks a bit more like the USMC dress uniform, but with the addition of a sash like those in the artwork, you'd get a decent look.

I'm actually having a kind of hard time thinking of themes or historical/fictional entities I'd want in 40k. So many of them have already been pilfered for 40k in one way or another, making it this panhistoric, panfictional universe that covers damn near everything. All I'm thinking of at the moment is a lived-in, ramshackle, but somewhat practical human army like the Terrans in Starcraft. Imperial stuff, even a lot of guard stuff, is festooned with purity seals, giant eagles, and so on, and it all looks very mass-produced, as it should. I'd like something a little more individualistic, sort of like... well, I think I just started describing rogue traders, proving my point

Rogue Trader had a lot of fun units with a good looks (and bad looks) and great fluff, whats not to like?

I was a little surprised when I saw that image, love that colour scheme though and with the Imperial Japanese soldier's obedience to the Emperor the fluff practically writes itself... Maybe when plastic Mordians come out
