Minimum squad for termagaunts is 10 so you need at least 5 more to be able to put them on the table. I guess it depends what type of army you want to build, you could try running a warrior as a tyranid prime for a while just to get it on the table. I'd go for a a bunch more gaunts a tervigon and a winged tyrant.

Although that does include the 5 Termagaunts which can't be fielded in a squad of less than 10

I too have a new nid army and have had great luck with the winged tyrant. In small battles it's almost unstoppable, just be wary of plasma guns. I have felt the distinct lack of umph with hormies, they often die before charging, but that was for kill team matches. For "real" games I have switched to termies. Genestealers can make you money, but they are usually rather high on your opponents target priorities.

If you have any guns on that carnifex, lack of synapse can become a problem. If he goes nuts you can't shoot. So I'd get something that was synapse to follow him and any termies around so they don't get stupid.

I've had fantastic luck with ymgarl's. They only failed me once and that was because i sent them into a unit they were completely outmatched by. Just remember in kill point games small units of gaunts make for very easy kill points for your opponent. The smallest squad i run is 20. If you are going to play nids be prepared to spend a lot of time painting gaunts. I've had my nids for about 6-7 months now and am getting ready to do another 30 gaunts so i can add another tervigon. Sometimes it seems never ending

For now you could use the terms and horns as 1 squad of one or the other and just proxy them. Unless your opponant is an ass they won't mind.

Turn 1 warrior into a prime and 1 genestealer into a brood lord.

I'd recommend proxying the carnifex as a tervigon.
