So I have a 4500 point battle Eldar vs Orks on sunday and I was looking for some general tactics against orks. I figure with that many points ill be facing alot of melee units from the orks side. I have roughly 6000 points in my entire collection but according to my opponent he has over 15,000 to choose from.

This is what I currently own.

HQ: Avatar, Asurman, Magun Ra, 3 Farseer, 9 Warlocks, 1 Spiritseer
Troops: 25 Dire Avengers, 10 Rangers, 12 Windriders, and about 120 guardians (Regular and storm assorted)
Elites: 10 Banshees, 20 Striking scorpions, 12 Harlequins, 30 wraithguard, 6 Fire dragons
Fast Attack: 10 Warp Spiders, 3 Vypers
Heavy Support: 2 Flacons, 1 Fire Prism, 2 War Walkers, 1 Wraithknight, 5 Dark Reapers

Extras: 2 Wave Serpent

Rules include to forgeworld and no titans.

Any guidance against Orks? This will be my first time playing with the 6th edition rules, and only my 2nd game ever against orks.

Are you playing a regular game or playing Apocalypse? 4500 pts is kinda a lot for regular game play (even with 2 FOCs).

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
Orks always ride in single file to hide their strength and numbers.

Normally I wouldn't advocate Serpent spam but, it neutralizes 2 of the top 3 biggest defensive abilities Orks can use;

1: Cover. Serpents firing wave shields ignore cover.
2: Kustom Force Fields. See above.

3: Numbers. 30 boys can take some losses and not give a fluck. Cuz' you can roll low for wave shield shots but, the counter to that? Dire Avengers; so many shots. Shots. Shots. Shots.

Eldar (Craftworld Sahal-Deran) 2500pts. 2000pts Fully Painted.

Dark Eldar (Kabal of the Slashed Eye) 2000pts. 1250pts Fully Painted.

Orks are one of the few armies that can easily deal with Serpents. The amount of S7 we can put out laughs at downgraded penetrating hits.

Prisms are deadly. They'll devastate AV14 spam and make glaring holes in foot lists

So it sounds like ill want a couple of dedicated lance weaponry models. Kind of hard to spam serpents when I only own 2. Is it only 2 FoC? I thought it was 3 past 4000? It is a regular game, just a very large regular game. Apocalypse would entail super heavy units, titans and apocalypse formations, none of which either of us have read into. and with no titans or forgeworld units allowed its going to be just a normal game of large numbers.
Should I take some D-Scythes as one of my wraithguard units? All the wraithguard I have are the old metal ones so non of them are wraithblades. Seems like those flamers would be able to put down some orks like crazy.
Unfortunately i dont have very many blast template units but I will deffinately look into the suncannon for the wraithknight, and maybe use the weapons platforms that hit in a straight line (do they still do that?).

Executing Exarch

The Twilight Zone

With what you have, you will be fielding most of your models to make 4500. The goal is to put down a lot of dakka to stop the orks before they make it, and some stuff to take out their shooty units.

For your HQ, you want at least 1 farseer, and the spiritseer. Avatar is hit or miss, as he will be an easy target and go down to a horde if they get him, but he also provides fearless and a fire magnet. Maugan ra with 20 guardians+2 scatter lasers makes a nice dakka squad that is also fearless, I would grab those.

Take at least 2 squads of avengers and 2 squads of guardians with scater lasers. I would take all 30 wraithguard, as T6 is fairly durable and will provide a fearless screen for assults, as well as durable scoring. Jetbikes are also good if you put some cannons on them.

Take all of your warp spiders, as well as all of your reapers. Give the exarch night vision and fast shot, your choice of gun. Both walkers with scatter lasers, prism with holofields. The stock wraithknight is good to take out armor and serves as a tarpit. One wraithnkight can tie up a squad of boys for a long time, just watch for power klaws.

A squad of scorpions might also be good to counter charge or assault things like lootas or ork big guns. 10 with a claw exarch. And take both serpents with scatter lasers, shuirken cannons and holo fields. Even 2 can make a huge difference.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

Storm Guardians yes or no?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also having the scatter laser in the guardian group doesnt make them all TL does it? I was pretty sure that was just for the model not the entire unit?
