I'm new to warhammer, my boyfriend introduced it to me, he told that when i make an army he will have a game with me. My friend recommended this site to help make a list, so here i am. I decided to play Chaos Space Marines as they look pretty awesome, but i only go the codex a few days ago so i dont really know much about the rules. my friend is going to lend me some of his models to beat my bf, he also gave me a starting list to build on, what do you guys think?

Chaos Lord, Mark of Nurgle

7 Plague marines, 2 plasma guns

7 plague marines, 1 plasma gun

Helldrake, baleflame

Helldrake, baleflamer

Helldrake, hades autocannon

2 obliterators

2 obliterators

Im not too sure on the rules so if there is somethng i should know just mention it, and i'm reading the codex and rule book atm so hopefully i'll understand a little.

Thanks

First nice to see all the girlfriends take up armies. Second I like that helldrake combination. And as an opponent, I hate facing obliterators. Just concerned with the lack of troops at this level Plague marines are tough but still fall to mass fire.

How do you think i should improve that?

Firstly, WELCOME!

Secondly, your "friend" must hate your BF because that is one disgustingly good list to start out with.

Be prepared to watch your BF cry. :-)

All anyone wants in the world is to be accepted. Except me, i don't give a S%@t.

Do you know what your bf is playing?
3 Heldrakes is quite cheezy to play, but it's fine if your BF plays a similar list.

However, if your BF is playing a nice list (not extremely competitative) your game might become one-sided slaughter.

Welcome to DakkaDakka and the wonderfull world of Warhammer 40k!
Also welcome to Chaos, blood for the blood god, skulls for the skullthrone and so on!

On a note for your list, the list that you have now is a really strong list and pretty competative. Something to have in mind is that you can build lists around curbstomping someone (competative) and more fun lists
What you have with your list is only 2 troops to capture objectives with. Plagues are really hardy but since you only have 2 troops you have to handle them carefully or you won't be able to cap and hold objectives. What you could do is switch out a Drake for another troop choice for a bit of redundancy.
What it all boils down to is playstyle and what you hope to get out of the game!

Good luck!

This+1

Is this list about enjoying a game with your bf or trying to smash him as hard as possible?
What army does he play?

Its because ordinance is still a word.
However, firing ordinance at someone isn't nearly as threatening as firing ordnance at someone.
Ordinance is a local law, or bill, or other form of legislation.
Ordnance is high caliber explosives.
No 'I' in ordnance.
Don't drown the enemy in legislation, drown them in explosives.

You've made a good choice in picking Nurgle as your patron Chaos God. He loves all of his little children.

Your list looks good, but like some other people have said, the triple Heldrake is a bit on the spammy-side, which may or may not be exactly what you're going for. However, for a first play through, its most important thing to do is to learn and have fun. You're going to lose and you're going to make mistakes, but all in all it should be a good time.

In the meantime, if you're looking for an alternative "Nurgle-y" list at 1250 points, you could try out:

HQ:

Chaos Lord - 145
Mark of Nurgle, Sigil of Corruption
Power Fist, Lightning Claw

Chaos Sorcerer - 140
Mark of Nurgle, Sigil of Corruption
Mastery Level 2, Spell Familiar

TROOPS:

Plague Marines [7] - 233
-2x Meltagun, Combi-Melta
-Chaos Rhino

Cultists [10] - 55
-Flamer

Cultists [10] - 55
-Flamer

FAST ATTACK:

Heldrake - 170
-Baleflamer

HEAVY SUPPORT:

Obliterators [2] - 152
-Mark of Nurgle

Havocs [5] - 150
-4x Autocannon
-Chaos Rhino

Havocs [5] - 150
-4x Autocannon
-Chaos Rhino

TOTAL: 1250

Let the Cultists steal the Rhinos from the Havocs, set the Havocs up in some cover, deep strike the Obliterators if you wish, and use your Plague Marines with your Lord and Sorc as a wrecking ball. This list allows you to learn about using Transports, Flyers, Psykers, Deep Strike, as well as many more of the usual basic rules of the game. It also gives you a few more toys to play with on your Lord, which is always fun.

Side effects of worshiping Papa Nurgle include (and are not limited to): Boils, scabs, internal bleeding, external bleeding, bleeding from the gums, eyes and ears, sweating, dehydration, furuncles, rash, pus-filled sores, nausea, vomiting, bloody vomit, black vomit, black & bloody vomit, sneezing, runny nose, dry nose, coughing, dry cough, wet cough, not-so-dry-but-still-raspy coughing, fever, hay fever, athlete's foot, athlete's arm, swimmer's ear, farmer's tongue, drowsiness, sleepiness, insomnia, mad cow disease, mad postal worker disease, loose bowels, constipation, anal leakage, and blood clotting. In most cases side effects were generally in the extreme and permanent. Consult your local cultist before worshiping Nurgle.

My girlfriend also plays Chaos, and she loves to run these kinds of lists. At 1000 points she ran 3 heldrakes...but if you guys are just playing for fun than I would tone down the heldrakes.

I make bad decisions and think they are good.

not sure of the point value your playing loks about around 1250-1500, and I dont have my codex with me. If so 3 helldrakes is overkill and would ruin fun games, and as a compettive list at this point value 3 might be too much.

I'd suggest either way to lose one Helldrake and beef up your troops. troops are important because they claim objectivesand in many games that is the only way to win.

I actually like the first list though you're actually a little light on gear. I think your friend doesn't like your boyfriend as this is a very strong list. What you'll get used to in the community is that people who write good effective lists are ridiculed for being "cheesy" or "beardy". I've never really understood it myself but you'll get used to bad players moaning about good lists.

As for the list itself well the reaction should tell you its Good. However I think going triple Helldrakes and quad oblit at this point level has left your list too bare with equipment stripped too far back. So I'd drop the autocannon Helldrake that frees up 169 points (as you were a point over). Also I disagree that you need troops to win in any mission as denial and secondaries can get you the win, not even talking about the wipe which is very possible with this type of list.

Then get that extra plasmagun on the Plague squad missing it. Get the Champions power fists and combi-plasmas. That's 85 points gone and then get Mark of Nurgle on all the oboist for another 32. That leaves 52 points to kit out your Lord. My advice is Terminator armour so he can tank AP3 shots for a squad of Marines, another combi-plasma (that's 8 plasma shots on a unit when you need them) and then melta bombs because why not. Your list has lost a unit but is now much more effective as a whole and those Obliterators are no longer instant deathed by S8-9.

Your army is pretty tough. I would get rid of one obliterator and have a squad of three or a squad of two and a squad of one. Would also get rid of the Heldrake with hades for more points (baleflamer>hades). You now have 240 points more that you can kit out your lord with, Get more squads of PM, squads of cultists, or Rhino's to transport

That is a very tough list to start off with - stuff like this is usually fine, but if you're looking to have a friendly game, there are nicer things you could bring. It depends what your boyfriend is bringing as well. I'll leave it up to you to judge the situation.

As far as adding to the list goes, I would add a unit of Havocs (for long range support) and another unit of Plague Marines or a unit of Cultists or standard Chaos Space Marines, since troops choices are very useful thanks to their ability to take objectives. 14 Troop models (even ones that are called Plague Marines) isn't enough above 1k, imo.
