With the change to the thunder fire cannon, I was wondering about the wording of barrage in the rule book. It says that barrage weapons use the same rules as blast weapons, but "can" fire using the barrage rules. My question is that with this wording do you get to choose if you fire as a barrage (and with the thunder fire as a multiple barrage) or can you fire it as a regular blast weapon.

That's how i've always read it, option to fire as a barrage, not a necessity

Thats not what the rule says at all; it says all barage weapons use the rules for blasts and large blasts with the following exceptions.

You MAY fire indirectly (this is an option)
You May NOT however alocate wounds similarly too a regular blast weapon.

Likewise, multiple barrage give no permission to fire them as multiple blasts. You must use the barrage method of scattering the blasts.

The only permission granted, is to fire them at targets to whom you have no line of sight.

The fluff is like ketchup and mustard on a burger. Yes it's desirable, yes it makes things better, but no it doesn't fundamentally change what you're eating and no you shouldn't just drown the whole meal in it.
