Alright so I started playing Blood Angels a few months ago and have played a lot but it seems with these new codexes we keep getting worse so to stay competitive we need to be as strong and condensed as possible

HQ
- They all seem over priced for what you get, especially after how cheap they made standard SM librarians, I think the best strategy is to take a jump pack libby to bounce around with a Assault marine(with a priest for FNP) and give him Unleash rage for broken assaults if you can get there. Hide him in a group where he cannot be hit from any side, not worth having him shot down early

Elite-
Not a fan of our elite slot right now, except priests, MAN they are decently cheap and multipurpose, I try to put there whereever I can (jump packs as needed) 50-75 for FNP is alot but it's worth it a lot of the time. plus they only take up one spot.. {PROTECT}
Terminators are ALWAYS solid, although grav guns may change this.. wait and see, they are better in a meta with alot of CC as they can stop your assault troops cold

Troops
Bread and Butter- Assault Marines, They NEED jump packs do not take them off but you prolly need melta guns and or a thunder hammer for the vehicles

Death company/DC Dread
They get alot of hate from their cost but a unit of 10 is 200 points with FNP where a unit of 10 assault troops with a priests is 250ish... it ends up being pretty good especially because they have 3 attacks with 2 cc weapons meaning 5 attacks on a charge... yes each dc gets 5 ATTACKS! thats still pretty good if they can get there (stormraven sometimes lets you get there)
Dread- pretty sick with blood talons, BLOOD TALONS EATS SMALL SQUADS IN ONE TURN. Pretty good if you charge in which if he lives after your SR crashes will be sick

Transport - EHHH, kinda underpowered, maybe some drop pods for DC or land raider for terminators if your feeling really liberal with points

Fast attack- Just bad right now... Everything here dies so fast youll cry they're barely even distraction units

heavy support- I LOVE devastators... stick them in a building with 4 missile launchers and you got a force.. I like to take 2 units and stick a priest inbetween them for protection thats 8 launchers with 2 signums

SR - Not so hott anymore but a person favorite distraction unit, it also kicks the butt out of most flyers, give it some extra armour, lascanonn, Multimelta, and sponsors and you will be killing ANYTHING on the map if you get to shoot

CURRENT LIST
Libby with jump pack and Fear/Unleash Rage - 125 Points

x2. 10 Assault marines w/ thunder hamer and melta- 230 ea

x3 Priests 2 with jet packs

10 DC w/ 2 thunder hammers

Devastator squad 4 missile launchers
Devastator squad 3 missile launchers 1 lascanon

Storm raven - Lascanon, Melta, Side sponsors

I started playing tau about 7 months ago, and was playing orks and space marines at the same time... Let me tell you something very cool...

Learning to find and trim the fat from an under-powered codex will MASSIVELY improve your list building. If you stick with BA, you will be riding on easy street when your turn to get an updated dex comes around... Just be ready to have a few of your staples change up a bit.

The fluff is like ketchup and mustard on a burger. Yes it's desirable, yes it makes things better, but no it doesn't fundamentally change what you're eating and no you shouldn't just drown the whole meal in it.

I have been trying to get a workable "takes all comers" (or, really, even a focused) list since 6th edition came out. I am glad that you have been having some success, as I have really struggled. Here are some general tips and opinions of the wider Blood Angel Players Community I have picked up:

- Assault troops are overpriced compared to Space Marine lists, and generally considered to be ineffective in the current meta because they can't get to combat intact.

- Death Company seem to be best used without Jump Packs, and perhaps sent down in a drop pod. That said, they are considered overpriced, as Furious Charge has lost a lot of its efficacy in the current edition of the rules.

- Furioso Dreadnoughts with the Frag Cannon are considered better than the DC "blender" version (Even I have had some success with this, using flamers--three templates per turn is pretty cool).

- Sternguard with combi-Meltas sent down in a Drop Pod are pretty effective, especially with a Priest or, even better, Brother Corbulo.

- Brother Corbulo is the best thing about the current BA codex. He can soak up hits and keep a key unit safe until it can get to combat, and he's not overpriced.

- Pretty much all of our named characters are overpriced and not very good, especially compared to other codices. Major drawbacks: Mephiston can't be placed in a unit, and, as Martel said, "Dante is the oldest known Space Marine...and does not have Eternal Warrior."

- So, the Librarian as HQ seems to be the trend, with Divination. (I personally hate this...maybe that's why I haven't brought my BA out to play for like 5 months...)

- Stormravens can be delayed showing up, and most people advise never trying to put expensive DC cargo (or other stuff) in them, as they are highly liable to get blown up because of low hull points.

- And then, of course, with the new Space Marines book out, we get none of those really cool new units. Even the Land Raider Achilles (Forgeworld) cannot be taken by Blood Angels.

- I personally agree with you about Devastator Squads being useful, though I go half Missile Launchers and half Lascannons. Putting the Priest there with them is definitely good, and so is putting them with an Icarus anti-aircraft gun and using the Sergeant's Signum on that.

- Beyond that, I am considering putting BAs on Bikes with a Priest, though I feel now that it would be better to get some White Scars or Dark Angels Allies for that.... Or, trying out our Fast Vindicators, and seeing how that works.

So...yeah...I am waiting for a new Codex. Keep the faith, man. The Blood Angels will be back...eventually...

5000 pts High Elves 4000 pts, Warriors of Chaos 4000 pts, Dwarfs 3000 pts, Wood Elves and Greenskins too

You're wrong about our Fast slots. MM attack bikes are really good for BA, especially if you join a divi libby and priest (both on bikes).

DC are too expensive for my tastes. I think a mech force with bikes is the best way to run BA currently - which is a shame as it's not very fluffy.

Blood talons are very hard to get to work properly because of delivery system issues.

MM attack bikes are quite nice, especially with a biker priest.

In a cruel twist, Stormravens are now better for vanilla marines because the vanilla marines themselves are so much more cost effective. This leads to a greater viability of reserve shenanigans. Packing 900 pts out of 1850 into reserves is just not feasible for BA. There are too many point of failure.

Brother Corbulo is awesome, but this just underscores how the BA are reduced to a gimmick. A gimmick that the Eldar and Tau can still spam off the table if they really feel like it.

Fast vindis works well... especially in a list with scouting/outflanking flamestorms... screws with your opponents target priority, and very often means the usually flimsy sang guard unit gets overlooked by the weapons that make them flimsy.

Hm not sold on Vindis 36" threat range is nice but the relience on cover and players tending to be on the ball with spreading out means your opponent is rarely scooping handfuls off the table. Preds, Las and Baal are nice though they people still find it easy to sneak side or rear shots. I honestly don't have the answers for BA, just trying to have fun and sneak the occasional win.

Ahh but making the opponent spread out means you can focus your few models on assaults into units that aren't as well supported by other units as they would usually be. A small advantage but with BA you have to take every advantage you can!
