Here's a mini that I painted up for Gencon this year.

It was sort of a last minute entry- I had a little bit of time after finishing my main entries, and I had been wanting to paint up Cross and his relic for the 'machines of war' category. Last year, I thought there wasn't enough awesomeness represented in the category. This year, there was plenty of awesomeness to go around. Cross got a 4th place ribbon.

Anyway, here he is:

Those reds are wonderful and the gradations in shade really make what would otherwise be an overwhelming amount of red just pop and look great.

I also love the nice blue contrast with the mace? in the left hand.

I could almost see that model functioning in a Menoth army but that may be the gold and white messing with my mind.

Great work!

The purple in that red is so rich! Nicely done.

Hey odin... do you have a brief tutorial or anyting on how you do your paint chipping? I think thats the style I want to go with for my infinity TAGs but I've had trouble finding a tutorial. Looks great!

What combinations of red did you use for this? I love the vibrant purer red shade as its highest highlight, not resorting to orange for the brightest areas.

That was something I was thinking about when I was choosing a color scheme. I considered predominantly using the white, and doing the detail work primarily in the magenta, but I went with basically an inverted Menoth color scheme.

Thanks, and yes, I did a write up on painting battle damage/paint chipping a while ago.

The only thing I'd change about it for this mini is that I went in at the end and highlighted underneath every paint chip. I'd like to try out starting with the light colors instead, but I haven't done that yet.

The base for the color is a mix of Sanguine Highlight and Sanguine base (P3). I shadded with a blue- I don't remember if it was Reaper's Midnight Blue or if it was P3's Exile Blue (or both). I'm pretty sure it was both (the darkest areas use the Reaper color).

After that, I highlighted up using Vallejo's Sunny Skin Tone (their version of Bronzed Flesh- a very orange color that looks only slightly like skin).

In the end, I needed to pull back the orange a bit, so I watered Sanguine Highlight down into a glaze and washed the lighter areas in it.

Ok, that's what I remember doing. I might have to figure some of it out again when the rest of the faction shows up in November.
