Just a general question. I don't think foot slogging works well, and I've been using Rhinos, but was wondering if DP would be better.

thoughts?

Drop Pods work well if you get some experience with them under your belt. Rhinos can be very effective if you practice with them, but primarily if you use many of them.

The rhino has the advantage of protecting your troops (for a little while at least) and can easily turn into LoS blocking terrrain and/or cover for said troops once they get out. Sadly they get popped easily which is why you want to take multiples and have other juicier target for your enemy.

The pod is actually more resilient with AV12... But the pod doesn't provide any significant cover and usually past turn 3/4 they've fulfilled their purpose and become relatively useless. I wish they made the extra armor option on the rhino to make it AV12 front... Oh well...

I still like the rhino personally...

Hope this helps.

The rhino still keeps that squad from being shot at by a wave serpant.

In the most recent game I played, I was more concerned with my opponent's heavy weapons rather than his advancing rhinos - though arguably that was because of the small table size.

Thanks eveyone. I guess the other problem I have with them is that if I go second, Rhinos are a very easy 1st blood claim. I know I could hide them more, but then it seems my marines take too long to get anywhere

I may be stuck in 5th but i rarely have a tac squad without a rhino, unless i'm camping with a bonfire and marshmallows, pods have their use(s) but i swear by rhinos, just be sure to have some long range to try and get first blood first, and never take them in purge the alien

They still have their use, but of the potential delivery methods we have, I prefer them less than the alternatives.

Part of it might be my general aversion to Tactical squads, I use them when there isn't a better alternative as troops, and I usually outfit them in one of three ways:
- drop pod melta suicide duty, 5 man
- ranged (lascannon) and razorback, 5 man
- ranged (LC), and drop pod, 5 man (I use this one when I need something in a drop pod, like Sternguard to NOT come down turn 1, and as such need drop pods)

If I'm using Tac squads I'm doing my darnedest to minimize their points footprint while still making them useful, so no rhinos there. Scouts don't get rhinos. Sternguard I want in pods. Vanguard, Termies, and similar units more focused on assault I like in Stormravens or Land Raiders. I tend to end up using bikes as troops too through Khan or a BC, so no rhinos there.

Basically, I think rhinos are worth it IF you want to throw large numbers of tactical marines at your opponent, and are using special rules, such as IF Bolter Drill or UM Tactical Doctrine, to improve them, but otherwise I think their use is somewhat limited.
