Angry Blood Angel Assault marine

Apologies to those who think this is another price rant. This is only meant as a quick realization of how far my money can go.

I own two spacemarine armies, BA and DA. Both army where great when first introduced. I went for a jumper list for BA lasted a year before other armies render it uncompetitive. My DA I went for a mixwing with 2 sets of DV starter sets. Lasted a few months until the CSM updated the FAQ and hel turkeys rendered my list uncompetitive.

So Right now I have spent my money on 2 armies and they are not doing too well in the current meta.

I was debating to buy the new SM codex for $70CAD. Money is tight for me and using my painted BA and DA as count - as is a bit getting used to in my mindset. So I was debateing with myself to get this new codex or not (my main concern is still the $70 I have to spend on not my favourite codex, but as a stop gap to get some competitivness to my army) when GTAV was released. next day I went over to friends place to play the game together. I was amazed on the scale of the game and how much stuff you can do inside the game! I haven't bought console game for years and I asked how much is the game? Friend told me its $60CAD.

$60CAD! The preception of the game price got me thinking. My friend precives $60 for a video game is a tad expensive, especially by buys quite a few. I precieve $60 for a great video game is a steal!. My warhammer budget I can't even get the SM codex for $60CAD, while for $60 I bought a squad of 3 black knights and found out they do very little in a game of 40K. most likely will get shot on turn 1.

I haven't had this feeling for GW of 'OMG this kit is a great deal and will bring me endless enjoyment to my 40k games when I purchase this kit' anymore. Its been replaced with 'I have to buy 3 ravenwing kits, 9 models to make this work' and hopefully the new faq/codexes don't screw it up'.

I'm not out of 40k yet. I'm sticking with my BA and DA army, learning to play better using subpar armies until a new BA codex is released. On the other hand I'm not buying GW anymore. $60CAD GTAV gives me a lot more enjoyment than another model kit that might/might not work.

It's a pretty easy argument that technology is more price effective than plastic toys from the 80's.

Well its hardly a fair comparison. GW pricing is insane. Video Game pricing is just gimped by horribly budgeting

You can get a TON of great indie games these days for very little, see humble bundle.

Also consider warmachine, as long as you don't go dumb with it, it is very affordable, the best part about it is the meta shifts, but not really all that much, everyone gets things all at once in bit compilation books and "big changes" like warspears not being bad anymore with the new UA, don't really invalidate other models/entire armies.

On the other hand have you thought about collecting an army to have fun?
I mean winning is great and all but it's not the only way to have fun in the hobby...

It's like MTG, If you keep chasing and running after the best at the time, you spend quite a bit. Probably could measure it in cars.
