Hi everyone, today got a really good deal on a land raider, belial, and the dark angel codex on craigslist, and I'm trying to figure out what is best to do with the land raider I got. It had a broken melta gun on top (not sure if it was a melta gun, it looked exactly like the bit on top of my rhino for the storm bolter). So I ripped that sucker off in the same way someone told me to do with my rhino. Make a hole in the middle of it with a screwdriver, or an old hobby knife, then just pry at the sucker. I got it off and replaced it with extra bits I got when I ordered the parts to fix my rhino neatly enough. Here is a picture of it.

So what I have now is a standard land raider, and neither the heavy bolter, or the top hatch where I could put a multi-melta are glued, they are just sitting on it. So what I'm thinking is there must be some way fairly easy to remove the actual weapon from the door type frame it is on. This would allow me to easily make it swapabble into a land raider crusader with a kit listed on GW's website below.

Anyway, if anyone has experience or knows a way to remove the weapons without hurting them, please let me know, it will be greatly appreciated!

It really depends on the type of glue used. If the previous owner used superglue you could freeze/unfreeze the model a couple of times to loosen the bond (never tried this, heard about this method). If plastic glue was used you're probably nog going to be able to take the sponsons off without destroying them.

It is definetely superglued, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to remove the broken multi-melta on top. I'm just wondering where the pivoting piece attaches, because I could possibly remove it, without breaking it.

The whole gun assembly should fit into the door slot. The chassis has two holes per side, and you can put the guns and doors in either. If you look at the crusader sprues you linked, the center frame, top part, left and right sides combine to form the gun sponson. The TLLCs use the same system.

In an ideal world, you could just pop those out, slap on some magnets, and call it a day. But glue and the whims of whoever assembled it might impact that.

The sponson has three parts you need to be concerned with. The top, bottom, and support rod that the gun is physically attached to. The rod is "supposed" to not be glued to the top/bottom but some people do. A fourth part, the "housing" that fits into the Land Raider door frame can also be removed if you desire.

Diluted acetone such as in fingernail polish remover will help you break up the superglue but you'll need to do some washing in mild detergent after. Just be careful when it comes time to removing the pieces so you don't damage the support rod or the part that actually glues into the Land Raider itself.

If it was super glued here is what I have used to lossen super glue ..LA Awesome General Purpose..its a pale yellow in color available at dollar tree or dollar general in the USA ..I soak the entire model in it..(overnight ) and get rid of the paint ..then I resoak it and use the tooth brush on it again (same batch of detergent) it takes two or three good soakings to break down and break up the super glue ..and it all comes off and away ..without hurting the plastic ..(note the entire model will come apart if done with super glue) however this has the added advantage of none of the parts being harmed and after a thourgouh rinsing its ready for reassembling and painting with your color scheme..

Yeah I'm definetely familiar with LA's awesomesauce, I used it when trying to disassemble a rhino, but it never really happened. I soaked it for over a week, and a lot of prying wasn't getting it done.

It appears like the top where the 2 gem-type lights are on the sponsoon is what is actually holding it in place, if this is removed I think I can remove the entire thing. I'm just worried about breaking it, but it's either that or keep the standard land raider.

Also, what do you guys recommend for a gun on the pintle mount of the land raider between multi-melta, hunter-killer missile, and storm bolter?

If you are gentle enough it IS possible to prise the top and bottom of the housing apart enough to get the gun/support assembly out in one piece, although this will require removal of the targeting array on the top. Alternatively simply cut the support rod at the top and bottom and replace it with a piece of metal rod.

Yeah I was able to get one the cover on the guns off, and the guns themselves came were just snap-fit, now the only thing still holding it in is the sensor array, so should I just cut that at the bottom, and plan to reglue it without having it move as it currently does? This seems like it'll be a really easy conversion.

Yeah I ended up getting the sponsoons off with a little bit of prying, I imagine it will be hard to keep it swappable and leave the sensor array mobile, so most likely I'll just have that stuck in place with the rest being able to rotate.

Can't you just use the hobby saw to cut the rod that holds the laser cannon in place?

Then you can use a bit of sprue-plastic and plastic glue to replace it for a single weapon.
Alternatively, you can stick a magnet in the place where the rod goes and equip your weapon parts with counterpart magnets.
