Hey Dakka,

I'm participating in a tourney soon, 1750 points. I play guard and want to ad a small marine detachment.

My goal for these guys is to as a little more turn 1 disorder to the game. So I am looking to make a cheap 1 DP list for maximal turn 1 surprise!
That means, troop and HQ in one DP or HQ in my guard with a troop squad in DP. Either way, I'm looking for whichever SM book/chapter to best build this throw away drop.

Thanks for the advice.

Only one pod? Seems like a waste to pay for another HQ in order to bring only one pod down. With that said, SW could do alright here.

Rune Priest (with Jaws and some other power) sets you back 100. Probably better to put this guy with your guard instead of in the pod.

10 GHs, 2 special weapons (flamer, melta or plasma depending on what you want them to do). Pod. 185-195 points depending on the special weapons.

That's not bad. About 300 pt detachment.

What about DA? Cheap librarians, but I don't know if their troop are as cheap/shock trooper enough to cause much disruption?

My intention is to use them as equivocal T1 storm troopers.

That said, I don't know if the point increase is worth hitting T1.

Well, a single unit to be sacrificed is not a good bet. I'd consider other options like a CM with an orbital bombardement, RG Assault Marines with jump packs, or even Mordrak and his Ghosts.

A dreadnaught with multi-melta might kill something and people seem to panic and direct to much shooting at it.
Alternatively a squad of Iron Hand Sternguard with 3 combi-meltas would kill something while retaining anti-infantry, also a feel know pain save is nothing to smirk at.
Overall though a single drop pod in a 1750 game will be swallowed by a enemy army and become a waste of points.

I am in a 1850pt torny and I was thinking about the same idea a rune priest in the blob squad with jaws and prescience. Two dps with gh one squad with duel flamer the other with duel meltas. And a long fang squad with a dp so both gh come down on turn 1. My only problem is arming the long fangs?

DA are not going to be as good as a one-drop as space wolves simply because SW get two special weapons for the price of one, and close combat weapons, and counter attack (which is good if they get charged by landing so close).

If you want to invest significantly more points you could do Pedro Kantor with sterngaurd in a drop pod. 7 Sternguard with combi meltas + 1 Multi Melta ( i think that's legal) and have them absolutely annihilate one squad. Can do the same with 8x combi plasmas or now 2x heavy flamers + 6 combi flamers. Would be downright nasty. They'd most likely get swept away but they are a good one drop, if a little pricey.
