I recently came into a whole mess of Grey Knights still in their boxes. I can't wait to start building them out, but I want to have a bit of a plan before I just start filing and gluing. Specifically, I have 6 boxes of both PAGK and terminators, so 30 of each. I'm not really sure how many of each weapon type I should model though. Does anybody have any tips as to how many hammers/halberds etc, to use? It seems like there are so many options on the sprues that I could build all of the models and not have a "standard" sword/bolter marine.

Also, is it feasible to magnetize them? All of the weapons go on different hands and arms, so I guess I could try magnetizing at the shoulders.

Basically, I'm not really sure where to start.

Hey there!

Opinion differs on the melee weapons. I personally like a couple hammers, and then a mix of halberds and falchions for my paladins and terms. I usually do the same with my PAGK, though the final loadout kind of depends on if i'm running them as purifiers or not.

For the ranged weapons, i personally load up to the gills with psicannons - as many as is legal. Maybe an incinerator or two depending on what army i'm playing, but i typically get the most bang out of psicannons.

Honestly, if you're not sure, you could magnetize a few bodies to accept different heavy weapons - this way you can avoid having to manetize *everything*.

Dang, what a haul. I'd love if that happened to me.

Almost all of my PAGK are purifiers and are either equipped with a hammer or halberd. Halberd are crazy cheap for purifiers. I have a hammer for every 5 purifiers. I also use a lot of Incinerators because they are free for Purifiers.

For Strike Squads maybe give the Justicar a Halberd to deal with challenges and a single hammer and/or psycannon but I'd stick with the standard sword/bolter combo to keep them as cheap as possible to you can take more.

That's a lot of Grey Knights my friend. My first question would be "what HQ choice would you want to take?" As that can drastically change how you build your army. Purifiers, Paladins, Purgation Squads, Terminators, Strike Squads, Interceptor Squads, and even most of your HQs can be built from just those two boxes, (and I assume you'll be playing those for a while since owning all of those and just wanting to play henchmen doesn' t make sense) so picking what you build matters.

I don't think you can go wrong with 1 special weapon per 5 guys, 1 hammer per 5 guys, swords on your PAGK (to save points for Psybolt ammo), and Halberds on your Terminators. ALWAYS take psycannons UNLESS you really want to play purifiers (as incinerators are free, and even then I like psycannons). Psilencers just don't do enough unless you're looking to only play against Daemons (and if that's so you've already won) so I wouldn't touch those. I would make 2 HQ models out of the Terminators (a Grand Master and a Libby since they're both stupid good).

Also, I don't think they're used too terribly often (other than by me) but Incinerators are free on Purgation Squads too.
I've had very good results with a 5 man Purgation Squad w/ Incinerators. 4+ and worse basically just go poof. Against GEQ it will WRECK stuff hiding behind ADLs.

Thanks for the ideas. I think I'll start by building terminators and PAGK with psycannons; can't really go wrong that way.

Out of 30 PAGK maybe I'll do something like this:
16 NFS/stormbolter
6 psycannon
4 demonhammer
4 halberd

That should give me a decent starting point, and maybe I can kitbash some incinerator marines. Does that seem like a decent ratio? I feel weird not building out all of the available psycannons, but maybe I can use them on my terminators somehow to make up for the fact they only get one psycannon per box. There are just too many good choices!

I always run my basic strikes with all NFS and a halberd on the sergeant if I have the points. If I have any other points left, I throw a hammer in. Falchions are too pricey for the extra attack and unless you're running purifiers, you'll realize the real strength of GKSS is shooting so dropping too many points into CC weapons is a waste.

I always run them in packs of 10 so I can get bang for my buck on psyammo and combat squad out the serg w/ halberd and hammer into diff squads for different roles. Serg can take challenges and hope for instant death and the hammer chases vehicles down.
