Recently i played a game vrs retribution and the mage hunters shot through warjacks, walls other units even entire buildings because of their phantom seeker tactic ( a model with phantom seeker ignores LOS when making ranged attacks. That model ignores concealment and cover when resolving ranged attacks) so it got me thinking and i looked through my army books and came across Cylena and her hunters.

Now she and her hunters have the ability :Hunter - this model ignores forests, concealment and cover when determining LOS or making a ranged attack.

Does this mean that they to can shoot through walls / forests / buildings when attacking opposing forces but they cant ignore a warjack that is inbetween them and the intended target ?

as a secondary question if i use Fiona the black as their warcaster and then cast nonokrion brand on them does it give them everything that the mage hunters have ? ( ie ignore walls, forests, buildings etc and now because of nonokrion interveening models )

Thanks in advance

They(Nyss Hunters) can't shoot through Walls that block LoS. They only ignore Forests for LoS, and they ignore the Cover and Concealment bonuses.

And yeah, they don't ignore models either.

Any spells cast on them will have the stated effects as normal.

Thanks grey,

so how come the mage hunters can shoot me through a building that blocks line of sight ? I'm just not reading that from their description ( maybe its me !)

Dave

Automatically Appended Next Post:
ah i think ive got it after re-reading the mage hunters specifically says ignores LOS whereas the nyss hunters says ignores cover forest and concealment - not specifically all LOS.

Is it me or as a new warmachine player do you have to be incredibly literal in everything you read as well as pedantic ?

You have to read everything very carefully in Warmahordes. The rules are quite literal in their meanings. And don't forget to check the errata, there have been many times that I have forgotten and done the wrong thing.

All of the answers given are exactly right. The reason that Warmachine rules are so literal is because of the fact that they define all game terms in the book and they even tell you when they are defining them when they bolden a word. That's one thing I love about Privateer Press. They define all of their terms and how they are going to use them in a game.

When the word 'cover' is used, it doesn't literally mean cover as what a model is behind, but rather what the game defines as the word cover.

Thanks for the answers guys, i guess there will be a few mistakes along the way but i'm loving the game and painting the figures so long may it continue !

If you look in the rule boom there a specific terms for types of terrain and what they provide. Linear obstacle ( wall) Obstruction (building, structure.....) Forest.

First thing you should always do before the game is to go over terrain with your opponent and agree on what each piece is and the advantage it will grant. This little step will save so much time spent arguing.

Does this mean that the hunter special rule ignores stealth?

No, it only ignores what it says it ignores.

It would Only ignore stealth if the rule specifically says that it ignores stealth. And hunter doesn't ignore stealth, I'm afraid. You can ignore forests for Los, and ignore cover and concealment, but stealth means ranged attacks from greater than five inches automatically miss.

The end result is while a model with hunter can physically see a unit with stealth in a forest, it would ignore the cover and concealment penalties when shooting at them, but unless the ranged attacks originated within five inches of the target, they'll still miss because thats what stealth does
