As a new player to 40k, I would like some information on making an allied list. I have a 500 point Imperial Guard force and about 500 points worth of Dark Angels. For instance, could I add a squad of Deathwing Terminators to my exising guard force? Can I combine parts of each list to play a game? I know some of this info is covered in the 6th edition rule book, but any input would help clarify this for me.

Yes you can add
1 hq(or more if they don't take a hq slot like a techmarine)
1 elite
2 troop
1 fast
1 heavy

But you can also take your standard FoC for your main detachment

Ok, your main army has to take the regular HQ, Two Troops, then they can take anything else. Your ally has to an HQ and 1 troops. They may also take an 1 HQ,1 Troop, 1 Fast Attack, 1 Elite, and 1 Heavy Support in addition to the mandatory 1 HQ/1 Troop.
