I welcome some new challenge, although the max health decrease seems kind of lame.
If they're going to cut health like they do in Demon's Souls, hopefully they give you benefits like Soul Form has (increased damage, no sound generation).
Additionally, going hollow to avoid invasions was the only way to avoid chickenhawks in some areas. As much as I genuinely enjoy invasions (and I probably spent more time in PvP than the main story, and I went through the main campaign over 20 times), some people managed to grief to ridiculous extents.
That said, I like the idea of time limits on summons. No more turtling or ganking.
I absolutely can't wait for this.
I hope that they don't make dual-wielding too powerful. I dislike the general idea of it, and don't want to be forced into it.

I'm all for more punishment for dying as long as absolute bullsh*t like the Anor Londo Black Knight archers, and the toxic blowgunners in Blight Town are kept out entirely or lowered.
At that point I would seriously tell everyone at my company of 50000 who all heavily game that Dark Souls 2 is garbage.
I liked dark souls on paper...the problem was that I found the combat and movement to be clunky to the point that it was what was actually the thing making the game difficult.
I have played and beaten some punishing games on the most difficult settings. ninja gaiden on hardest, metal gear solid 1,2 and 3 on extreme...and dark souls was just....poorly made and masquerading as being a hardcore gamers dream...maybe some people love the mechanics, I personally just found them lazy and uninspired. Ninja gaiden is difficult, but the combat is responsive and fluid, it's 100% up to you if you succeed or get killed...dark souls never felt like that.

First of all, stop wearing heavy armour unless you have the capacity for it.
Ninja Gaiden and Bayonetta's combat systems are a dozen times (no exaggeration) better than Dark souls gak combat. It's to be expected they're both quality third person action games. Dark Souls' allure never came from the combat.
I'm eagerly awaiting Dark Souls 2 as well. While I got into the game pretty late, I did have a great deal of fun with it when I did. It was a nice throwback to some of the challenges without mercy. The health penalty is something that could be mixed, but if they do the thing where it has some other effects ala Demon's Souls, it shouldn't be that bad. And let's be honest, rarely in Dark Souls did you win or lose a fight based on a slow grinding down of health (at least in my experience ) it tended to boil down to "WHAM" and I'm dead.
For the pvp, eh, I'm fine with it always being there, so long as the timer is there. I was never a big pvper, but I defended myself enough times to understand the appeal of it. I'm certain there will be pretty nasty hotspots for being jumped, though.

Oddly enough, Fred and Ted don't hit people who run fast enough and Ted likes to commit suicide if you get him to draw his sword and back up. Also, by flinging poo before fighting them, you can toxic yourself with a less virulent form of the plague and watch as the blowgunners literally can't do gak.

Then as Fafnir said, you never played it properly; Ninja Gaiden, DMC, and Bayonetta all require you to hit hard and fast, creating combos to isolate one target before getting the bugger out so as to not get hit. Dark Souls is more like Chess; If he is coming at me from one side, circle back and keep him in my sights, etc etc etc, requiring you to actually see and focus on what the enemy is trying to do and react, instead of just mindlessly bashing on buttons.
I've never feared Death or Dying. I've only feared never Trying.
Mr Nobody wrote: I just hope they reduce backstabbing damage. The game gets really boring when it devolves into two people running in circles.
Good PvPers don't just run in circles. In fact, circling like a moron is a great way to open yourself up to backstabs. If you know what you're doing, you'll be weaving in and out to pivot or counter-pivot. All the while, you need to be mindful of spacing. You can't backstab a good spear user.
And let's be honest, rarely in Dark Souls did you win or lose a fight based on a slow grinding down of health (at least in my experience ) it tended to boil down to "WHAM" and I'm dead.
That depends. I've had fights end that way, especially against the afformentioned spear users (for similar reasons, I always ended up carrying a demon spear in my inventory on my PvP builds to compensate). If it was all backstabs to instant/near instant death, I would have stuck with my estoc instead of moving over to Balder Side Sword as my main weapon. But at the end of the day, good spacing and area control will beat backstabs, which means that you also have to be good at poking.
Against a good player, constantly going for backstabs is risky business, and you leave yourself open for an easy pivot-stab if you get predictable. Matches can take a decent amount of time if both players are good enough to feel each other out. Of course, if someone rushes at you and gives you a free pivot, you take it and end the match before they can even think up what to send in their next hatemail.
Cheesecat wrote: Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of the game but even I have to admit the combat has a lot of depth and complexity.
Never said it didnt. It just isn't as enthralling as Bayonetta's combat.
Depth doesn't really mean something is good. There's a lot of depth to it. I don't remember ever stunning a boss.
I had a truck load of fun though with the Manus, Artorias, and Kalameet fights. More than I ever had with DMC.
