I am looking for what people take to tournaments to get an idea of the play style.

Warmachine is one of the great games where player skill trumps list build. Khador is a faction of infantry buffs. The spells and solos in Khador really push the limits of what infantry get done. A lot of people see the armor and power on the jacks and make the mistake of thinking that Khador is the Jack faction. Not true. They do not have the spells and support to really run more than 1 - 2 Jacks effectively.

You will however see that there are some core models that get taken a lot.

Winter Guard
Widow Makers
IFP
Beast 09
Behemoth
Spriggan.

Take a look at the models and play what you like the look of.

Khador is interesting. My first faction was Khador and after taking a spin with most other factions (minus Legion and CoC) I always return to my Khador. Knador gets a lot of bad press, and while some of it is justified, most of it is false. There are some truths that need to be understood however, and while I tend to avoid absolutes I will give you some hard learned facts:

- Khador is not a Warjack faction. They can manipulate 1-2 warjacks semi effectively, but rarely will they go above this number and have all of their jacks be part of the overall plan of the game.

- Khador IS an infantry faction. We buff our troops, and do it well. We have a high volume of powerful infantry options, includes solid ranged and magical support.

Bringing Khador to a tournament can be a task for a multitude of reasons. In this you need to balance your characters between 2-3 lists as well as voer as many bases as you can. Some people being Skew lists that often articulate a specific point of the game (such as high armor, troop spam etc) these skew lists can decimate opponents who can not deal with the skew. Other players (like myself) enjoy playing balanced lists that can play in most scenarios with a moderate chance of success. These lists often meld melee with shooting with magical support and other models used to shore up weaknesses. Between 2 lists you should be able to confront 90% of the given field with moderate amounts of success. Like others have said, Warmachine gets mileage out of the player and list building abilities. I have seen "bad" warcasters do well under competent players and "broken" casters die on the top of turn two when piloted by rookie players.

Currently I am crushing 3 lists for Templecon, which is still 4 months away. For reference, here are my lists:

uButcher
-Argus
-Argus
-Spriggan
-War dog
Cylena Raefyll & Nyss Hunters (Cylena and 9 Grunts)
Iron Fang Pikemen (Leader and 9 Grunts)
-Black Dragon Officer & Standard
Kayazy Eliminators (Leader and 1 grunt)
Widowmakers (Leader and 3 Grunts)
(Yuri the Axe)
Kell Bailoch
Widowmaker Marksman
A+H
Madelyn Corbeau, Ordic Courtesan
Ogrun Bokur

Supreme Kommandant Irusk
-Behemoth
-Sylys Wyshnalyrr, the Seeker
Greylord Outriders (Leader and 4 Grunts)
Iron Fang Pikemen (Leader and 9 Grunts)
Iron Fang Pikemen Officer & Standard
Iron Fang Pikemen (Leader and 9 Grunts)
Black Dragon Officer & Standard
Widowmakers (Leader and 3 Grunts)
IFP Kovnik
IFP Kovnik
Eiryss, Angel of Retribution

Kommander Sorscha
-Spriggan
-War dog
Doom Reavers (Leader and 5 Grunts)
Doom Reavers (Leader and 5 Grunts)
Tactical Arcasnist Corps (Leader and 2 Grunts)
Winter Guard Mortar Crew (Leader and Grunt)
Winter Guard Mortar Crew (Leader and Grunt)
Winter Guard Rifle Corps (Leader and 9 Grunts)
Alexia, Mistress of the Witchfire
Eiryss, Mage Hunter of Ios
Gorman di Wulfe, Rogue Alchemist
Kovnik Jozef Grigorovich
Reinholdt, Gobber Speculator
Saxon Orrik

These three lists are built within character restriction in mind. uButcher is the new hotness and has some rogue ability since many people have never played against hm. He also has an out against Hordes and tough in general (Silence of Death) and has some crazy charge angles. eIrusk offers 20+ tough pikemen while backed up with ranged (Widowmakers and Behemoth) and Magical (Outriders) support. The pSorscha list is great against infantry heavy lists which is the vogue these days.

In all honesty your going to se a great deal of Khador Warcasters in tourneys. I feel that they all have play, with Lady Z and Harky taking lower rungs of use.

That is one hell of a list, I doubt that I am anywhere near a tournament level of play, but I was just curious. Thank you for that insight into the world of Khador at tournaments.
