Numberless Necron Warrior
|
I am trying to make a list that puts as many models with the necron rule as possible on the field, while still being playable. This list is just for fun, but i do plan on fielding it at a local tournament to see what happens.
HQ
Imotekh-225
Destroyer Lord,orb,weave,MSS-190
Royal Court 1:
Chronotek-40
455
TROOPS
10x Warriors-130
10x Warriors-130
10x Warriors-130
10x Warriors-130
10x Warriors-130
10x Warriors-130
780
ELITE
20x Flayed ones-260
1495
That's 60 warriors marching up the field under the shroud of night fighting.
Internet wisdom says that flayed ones are the worst thing since barney the dinosaur. However i have fielded them against CC oriented armies(tyranids,BA,Templar) And as long as you have the destroyer lord with an orb, they hold up as a great distraction, thorn in your flank.
83 necron models. means i will be flooding the field with bodies, this footprint should hinder flyers and deepstrikers.Hopefully.

This list type can work, as necron warriors are good at both anti-horde and anti-tank, especially in these numbers, but to get the most out of this, you'll really need to find room for some Res orb lords. I would also suggest taking the 60 warriors as 4x15, as 10 is too easy to kill outright and therefore deny resurrecting, while 20 is too unwieldly. 15 is the sweet spot, especially with a res orb lord, as they take longer to kill outright, but can still manoeuvre effectively and apply force concentration.

I actually played around with the 15 man squad size, and even considered taking squads of 12.
Do you really think i need the res orb lords, they are quite expensive?

Res orb lords are almost mandatory in anything 15 or more models, as getting half your guys back instead of one third is great when spread across the whole army. Maybe you don't need them on a single squad dedicated to backfield objective sitting, but for anything that is going to be in the line of fire, they are really amazingly useful.

I must admit I have no experience with Flayed Ones, but looking at them as basically CC warriors, the same is true: keep a res orb nearby, and they'll survive long enough to put out some hurt. Again, maybe drop them to 15 if you need the points, as that makes them easier either to DS or get cover for. Also, remember you can use Imhotekh's bloodswarms nanoscarabs to give them reliable DS near a dangerous target.
As an additional note, it's just occurred to me that this list would be even better with the IA12 necron list, which allows you to buy shred on your warriors and Flayed ones. If you have access to this and your meta allows forge world, then perhaps this might be worth looking into.

I'd agree that your warrior squads should be 15 strong, I run a single squad of 15 and their survivability is great, the squad usually has 5 or 6 warriors still alive by end of turn 5 (and that's without a res orb) I also find it unnerves my opponent as they realise that if those 15 get in range of rapid fire of even their toughest vehicle that vehicle WILL be wrecked in one single volley (gauss glancing on 6) of shooting.
I regularly play a chaos player and he no longer charges his maulerfiends at my gauss troops as its fairly likely it'll go down in overwatch.

I agree about making your squads bigger, and I don't see any problem with making them 18 or even the full twenty troops.
Here's how I'd do the list
Overlord WS,MSS Resorb
Royal Court
3x Lords with resorb
Elites
8 Lychguard w hyperphase swords
Troops
3x 20 Necron Warriors
Overlord with the lychguard, 1 lord with each blob. 20 warriors can be unwieldy, but if you're worried about the cost of resorbs this way you need 4 total instead of 5. I know the lychguard are not popular, but the main beef with them seems to be that they're slow, but since you're pretty much marching up the table, that seems like less of an issue, plus they hit harder and are way more resilient than flayed ones. If you want a named character, bring trazyn with the lychguard. He'll make them scoring, can help take out hordes in CC, and you don't have to worry about him dying.

The key to strategy is not to choose a path to victory, but to choose so that all paths lead to a victory.
War is beautiful because it establishes man’s dominion over the subjugated machinery by means of gas masks, terrifying megaphones, flame throwers, and small tanks. War is beautiful because it initiates the dreamt-of metalization of the human body. War is beautiful because it enriches a flowering meadow with the fiery orchids of machine guns. War is beautiful because it combines the gunfire, the cannonades, the cease-fire, the scents, and the stench of putrefaction into a symphony.

Upgrade to full 20 man squads, and get a royal court of Lords with Res Orbs and then an Overlord loaded out the same. That's 120 Warriors, for a possible 240 Guass shots a turn, advancing under the cover of Darkness.
Possibly construct an RCDI with the Stormlord's Court, for cheese and giggles.
140 bodies on the field, I doubt a lot of people could even shoot their way through it
