Would you be opposed to an opponent using a Chaos Manticore model as a stand in for a Chimera?

They are roughly the same size, use the same base, and look fairly similar.

Nope I wouldn't I know a friend who wants to convert a DE dreadlord on a dragon with the new Lizardmen Carnosaur, with added wings and I would see no problem to both ideas

I wouldn't mind. I doubt many people would even know the difference unless they were familiar with Greek Mythology.

The appearance of a Chimera varies a lot in popular culture anyway. If you wanted, you could say that that was what you thought a Chimera should look like.

And its not like anyone uses actual Manticores anyway.

I think you can use a lot of the giant monsters for whatever you want, as long as you have the right base size. I put a beast mage on a mountain chimera for a special event, and I fully plan to use him as a beast mage on griffon.

Yeah, I much prefer the Manticore model myself. Given that no two Chimera should look the same, I would have no problem with my opponent using a Manticore model to represent one, especially if they are using one Manticore and one Chimera. In fact, I proxied one for a while after I started playing WoC.

As long as your opponent knows exactly what they are facing I do not see the problem.

as long as its the same base size i wouldnt care as id be happy just to be playing lol

i tend to avoid players in my club who complain that you should play what you have. i never play in GW clubs due to their strict rules. half my armies proxies in one way or another.
i could go on for a fair bit about what i use for other items in my army. i even share some models between my WoC and my Lizardmen army for example:
i use a D.Elves dragon as my chaos dragon and also my Lizardmen Carnosaur.
but yeah just tell your opponent what the model represents. if he complains just pack up lol he'll soon change his mind
