So I've been posting a few of these separate strategies. I've been out do the game almost a full year and things have been changing. I am getting back in by bringing my guard to a 1.5k tourney. Not looking to win, but want to avoid being steam rolled when possible. However I only have a month to get my army ready, with working resident hours this means I'm limited on painting time. So trying to see if what I got can be used well in the new meta, so...

How about Psyker Battle Squads?
I used to have a full squad rolling around in a chimera with a primaries to match up shriek with their lowering Ld. This meansi have to pass 2 ld tests and my opponent fail 2 deny the witches... However, I have seen entire assault marine, termie squads and even monsters disappear in one go with this combo... In a 1500 point game is this a viable strategy now? Or go cheap and put them on foot? And/use an allied librarian because, yeah, for 5 less points you get so much more...

Sargent! Bring me my brown pants!

Yes its a viable tactic, as you said, it can be brutally effective if it goes off. But viable/=competitive, the idea with hyper competitive play seems to me (I am not a hyper competitive player, take in mind) is to have the most effective strategy and take the least amount of chances to screw up. I believe this tactic has somewhere around a 65-ish% chance of working, I'm sure someone has done the math somewhere, and paying that much for a 35% chance to do nothing isn't competitive.

But for you? Its a local, friendly tourney, take the unit and have fun. Make sure to not have the Primaras in the same unit as the psykers because of the 'For your own good' rule and its to many eggs in one AV 12 basket. Also be sure to take other threats as well, because that PBS is practically an AV 12 vindicator, so they will be high on the priorities list. You can off set this by taking the likes of Manticores, Leman Russes and hellhounds for obvious targets.

On the allied Librarian thing, that I could get behind. But you also have to pay the troop tax, which bites into Leman russ points, who REALLY shine at that point level. In conclusion, take them, but be aware that they might not work out some games and you will need other targets that have to be dealt with as well. Oh, & take a Chimera, always.
