I'd like to start collecting some Tau; not necessarily enough to field a force all on it's own, but simply to ally nicely with my Eldar. Any suggestions? I'm thinking the gunline stuff; leave the speed to the Eldar, have some big guns sitting up the back as Tau...

Definitely a Riptide to go with my two Wraithknights just to go for maximum weight of plastic on the table...

But I don't know the codex that well, just the general feel of it. Battlesuits? Drones? Tanks? What's the general feeling, here?

Well: If you just want to make a cheap gunline ally detachment I would recommend getting a fireblade to be the HQ, with a unit of Firewarriors behind an Aegis Defense Line. The Fireblade will man the quadgun, and give the firewarriors an extra shot at 30"

If you wanted to use two squads of firewarriors, now you want to use an Ethereal, so both squads can benefit from the leaders special rules.

Now, if you want to add the "Big Guns" Then you want to add a Hammerhead or two with Railguns, or a Riptide with Ion Accelerator.
