If wanted to start playing the Android: Netrunner LCG, what would I need to buy to get all the cards?

Are the bigger boxes just compilations of the Data Packs, or would I need to buy all of them as well? And how many of each would I need to get to the 3 card limit on each card?

If you wanted to get all of the cards you'd need to buy the base game, all avalible Data Packs (I think 6 are currently out - it's the genisis cycle on their website) and the deluxe expansion Creation and Control.

Generally the Data Packs add a few cards to each corporation/runner card pool. The deluxe expansions generally add either new factions or new game elements. Each pack or expansion comes with a play set of cards, sometimes thats 1 but mostly it's 3. Basically in the game your allowed to have 3 copies of any card in your deck however some really powerful cards only allow you to have one copy in play at any given time. If your only allowed to have one copy of a card in play your only going to get one copy of that card in play. If you really wanted to have a minimum of three copies of every card you'd need to buy three of everything out for the game...

Realistically though I'd recommend starting with the boxed game and going from there, alot of people like Android Netrunner but not everyone.

No worries, I really enjoy this game. My FLGS has been running monthly Netrunner Tournaments, it's great!

I have two differnet sets of this game. One set has all of the expansions mixed in and is kept in a big cardboard card box. The other is just a copy of the base game with the starting decks kept seperate. I find it much easier to teach the game with just the starting decks.

If you want specific purchases, for deckbuilding purposes:

1. Core Set, Datapack: What Lies Ahead
Core set is necessary, of course. WLA offers new Agendas to the Corp players, so it's a must.

2. 2nd Core Set
Now this is a bit controversial. The way the Core Set is made, it supposed to offer playable decks right out of the box by combining a Runner/Corp group of cards with their respective Neutral cards. That means you get a lot of cards that only have 1 or 2 copies in the Core. Buying a second Core lets you get a full 3 copies of each 2-of, and another copy of the 1-ofs, some of which are really important to certain factions/decks.

You can do what I did, which is buy a second Core and sell what you don't need to someone else. Or you can keep the surplus cards for extra deckbuilding.

3. Go nuts!
Check out Boardgame Geek for listings of what cards are in each Datapack, and Cardgame DB for deckbuilding fun. You can plan out decks and then buy what Datapacks you need.

All I need at the moment is a copy of A Study in Static, and I'll be caught up (at least, until the Spin cycle starts up sometime this month).

Not going to lie, I only bought the first core set, haven't even done any deckbuilding, and my friends still absolutely love the game. With 3 runners and (I think) 4 corp decks included right off there's a ton of diversity right there.

I don't really know much strategy for it though, just know I love playing the corporation.

Oh, yeah, FFG definitely did a great job with creating a well-playing, right-out-of-the-box game with the Core set.

But the game is soooo much more deeper when you move into deckbuilding. Right now I'm running with a Gabriel HQ-assault deck, and corping with an HB-fast advance deck called 'Developmental Hell 3.0'. I actually met the deck's creator at a Netrunner event. His discussion of the deck with me just made we want to play it, especially since it takes a card that a lot of people thought was useless (Rework) and built an entire deck around it.
