As the subject suggests, I'm a new 40K player currently working on a Grey Knights army. I've ordered the following thus far:

1 Kaldor Draigo

2 Terminator squads

3 Grey Knight squads

My question is how I should go about building this army. I'm thinking that I'll just make the two Terminator squads into Paladin squads instead. However, with the Grey Knight squads, I'm still wondering what I should do. Should I make 1 Strike squad, 1 Interceptor squad, and 1 Purgation squad, or should I just make Purifiers instead. It might be worth noting that I don't anticipate buying any more units in the near future. Any constructive criticism is encouraged and appreciated.

GK is an aging codex that can still rock face, if you ask me. The grey knights boxes are nice in that you can make just about anything you want. If you are willing to use magnets, than you can easily switch between anything you like.

You should resist the temptation to do full draigowing. This edition draigowing is in serious trouble. My paladins are eating more str 8 ap 2 than ever before. Of course, if you are using draigo anyway (and he is still a beast) it doesnt hurt to include a few "solodins" as late game objective snatchers. The rest of the terminators could form a nice squad to hang with draigo.

Power armored GK really want to be in groups of 10 to get max benefit from psybolt ammo (which is awesome). A group of 10 GKSS for a really strong power base, especially with 2 psycannons. Don't forget that they can deepstrike!

Your remaining 5 could easily become a purifier squad. Really though they need a ride.

These are just suggestions of course! Go with whatever appeals to you!

How many points? Only get some rides for your stuff
10 paladin 4 cannons
dragio
techmarine
libby(sanctuary for 2+ cover save with paladins)
2 units of purifiers
and when you expand more get a bunch of dreadknights
or for shooty GK get dreadnoughts

Caxton makes some good points.

If it was me with those models:

Draigo makes paladins troops. use this to your benefit.

the 3 other squads i would personally make Purifiers out of them. still IMHO the best horde control unit in the game.

All anyone wants in the world is to be accepted. Except me, i don't give a S%@t.

I like the idea of making Purifiers, but I've read that they are really only practical in close quarters. I do like the idea of making a 10 man strike squad, and making 1 squad of something else. Just need to figure out what that "something else" is.

Looks like tiny Draigowing with purifiers. I would give the purifiers halberds and psycannons. You do really need to pick up some bits like more psycannons.

So it seems from the feedback I've gotten thus far is saying that I should make Paladins and Purifiers. I would just like to ask if an Interceptor squad would be useful at all. To me, it seems like it would be due to their mobility, even though they can only use it once per game. Do transports make Interceptors useless?

Oh Interceptors. They make me mad. Why? Because they are one of the few units where it makes sense to break up the monotony of psycannons with some incinerators, and yet they must pay an insane amount of points for them. I believe there was a strong tactic for them back in the day when you could use their teleport as a scout move, but nowadays I really don't see why you'd use them.

Well you could use them to tp 30" and then burn some firewarriors/pathfinders/kroots/guardsmen....

I'd suggest 1-2 dreadknights as monstrous creatures usually take at least 2 turns of dedicated firepower to bring down (giving your paladins a break from the high str low ap weapons).

A decent army could be something along the lines of:

draigo
5x paladins + 2x psycannon (2 hammers, 2 halberds, 1 sword)
5x paladins + 2x psycannon (2 hammers, 2 halberds, 1 sword)
10x purifiers /w 1 hammer, 5 halberds, 4x psycannon + rhino
10x interceptors /w hammer + 2x psycannon
dreadknight + psycannon (teleporter if you have pts)
dreadknight + incinerator (teleporter if you have pts)

This comes out to roughly 2000 pts (don't have codex on me) and would be fairly competitive. Most of your army can teleport or deepstrike giving you aggressive play.

Draigo can use his grand strategy to make 1-3 units troops (avg 2) so you'll have at least 3 scoring units and potentially 5.

You could even drop the interceptors for another purifier squad in a rhino - they are more predictable, but put out greater firepower (and much more efficient in CC with 2 attack base and halberds for dirt cheap).

With proper target saturation, I've had great luck with Incinerators Purgation Squads in a Razorback w/Psybolts vs 4+ armour and worse.
