Hello all, I was wondering if it was indeed legitimate for me to outflank some centurions in a land raider with the raven guard chapter tactics.

My TO says that I totally can, because the centurions are riding along with the land raider....

But I can see where my opponents would take offense to this, because I don't believe a land raider has chapter tactics...

Perhaps the librarian riding along confers it?

What's your take on the possibility of this move?

Land Raiders do not get Chapter Tactics, so it wouldn't come from there.

Centurions do get Chapter Tactics, but they're very bulky so they won't benefit from the Raven Guard CT's.

The Librarian is the only place I can see it coming from. I don't have the rulebook in front of me to confirm this though if someone is willing to check this.

From what I've read, as they're Very Bulky, they can't benefit from Scout. Therefore cannot Outflank. In turn neither can the LandRaider.

grendel083 is correct. The rule in the Codex for the Chapter Tactics says that the Centurions "cannot benefit" from Scout. It's not that they don't get it. So your Librarian has it fine, and can confer it to the Land Raider so there's no trouble that way. But if you try to put Centurions in there too, if they're Outflanking, they're benefitting from it.

RAW I would agree that the Centurions could not "benefit" from another model providing the scout/outflank rule for the LR and unit.

Personally, it seems a little sketchy that the fact that they are big and ponderous has anything to do with the vehicle they are simply sitting in being able to sneak around on a flank...but the game is an abstraction, and there are plenty of other head scratchers in there.

It seems pretty obvious to me that the whole reason that restriction is there is to keep players from outflanking/scouting land raiders since the only squads that can take a LR as a DT and benefit from the RG chapter tactics are bulky or very bulky.

That's a damn good point. It has to be dedicated, doesn't it...? In which case the Librarian couldn't confer Infiltrate to the LR by itself anyway.

Sad days, it looks like iron hands with a master of the forge to run up the table might be the best way..
