I think as the new codexes have been coming out and even since before they came out, CSM have had a rough go by themselves being a competitive army. I wanted to try to make an army that could be only CSM and also stand against Tau/Eldar and the new SM. Here is my idea, let me konw what you think. I want to try it out this weekend sometime.

HQ
Lord with Termie armour, blight grenades MoN, burning brand, chainfist, gift mutation - Warlord

Daemon Prince - MoT, Wings, Armour, Black Mace

Troops

Plague Marines - 5 man, 2 plasma, Asp Champ - melta, combi plas, Rhino

Cultists - 2 10 man

Cultists - 11 man

Fast Attack
3 Helldrakes - baleflamers

Heavy

Oblits MoN 3 man 2 squads

Havoks 5 man - autocannons

Fort
Bastion with Comms

Thought is to have 1 cultist 9 man squad in bastion with havoks on top, reserve oblits and deep strike 1 or both squads - lord goes with one squad, helldrakes in reserve. DP hiding behind bastion until takes off, 2 cultists squads in reserve, PM and rhino on board hiding until later game
Thoughts are to ride out 1st turn, hope to get oblits and helldrakes in turn 2 and DP to hopefully assault something turn 2.
I am debating brand on dp and mace on lord, then could keep dp in air and act as another helldrake, but then drop fist on lord and just have mace.... I know the cultists are weak but they are just for objective grabbing really and I think lord on ground just gets shot to crap with tau and eldar now. I understand interceptor but with invul and oblits likely not kill lord on landing. Thoughts....

Wherever they tell me

I have a hard time telling anyone their list is ready if they don't have at least one solid scoring unit for every 500 points. This list is just asking for a deep striking flamer to wipe out all the cultists.

The problem I have though is I don't know where you can free up the points to get more troops. I'd suggest the Havoks honestly. Don't deep strike the oblits, instead put them on the bastion. Then strip down your lord and put him with the plague marines?

I'm really not sure the direction to go, but you really need more troops or else this list will melt to anything that can deep strike or ignore cover; both of which Tau and Eldar can do.

Tyranids 10000 points
Orks 3500 points
Raven Guard 3000 points

First thanks for the feedback.... Second I agree with the troops comment. One squad will hide in the bastion. The other two will walk in from reserves which with the comms relay I am hoping to keep them out for as long as possible... I know the troops are fragile, except for the PM, but it comes down to a lack of points...

I understand that frustration, I just have a bad feeling your not going to be playing an objective game you're going to be hoping to table your opponent or get a draw.

Honestly even the plague marines are going to be fragile. They're the lone AV on the ground, and boy will they be a juicy target.

I think your best bet may still be to trade the havocs for another squad of plague marines. I don't know how the points will work out though, but it'll give you another scoring unit. You could follow the other things I said above too in order to get some more points for troops. CSM is a hard codex to critique if you don't use a cookie cutter army :(

I agree I think it is hard to be competetive with it, but I want to use a pure list. But maybe not possible.
