Subject: Tau with a Dash of Eldar.... 1750 list

So have an upcoming tourney that is 1750pt.. let me know what you think
HQ
Ethereal
Commander - Iridium, shield, drone controller, command and control node, puretide, multispectrum sensor suite, and 2 flamers and 2 marker drones
Troops
9 Fire Warriors
Kroot - 14 man with sniper rounds
Kroot - 14 man with sniper rounds and Kroot hound
Fast Attack
Pathfinders 8man
Elite
Riptide TL fusion and Ion upgrade
Riptide TL fusion and Ion upgrade
Heavy
Broadsides - missile pod upgrade 3 man with 6 missile drones, all have early warning override
Fort Aegis with Icarus
Allies Eldar
Farseer - spear
Troop
DA 5man in serpent with TL Scatter Lasers, Shuricannon and holofields
that is 1749 points
Plan is to stick the Farseer with the broadsides and man the icarus, also stick the commander with the broadsides, this gives them his BS, ignore cover, drones his bs, fire interceptor
The markerlights will light things up and what the broadsides don't kill they will help boost the BS or ignor cover for other things
WS can go and objective grab later in game as well as outflank kroot squad the FW, kroot and broadsides hide behind line and shoot the crap out of things. The flamers on the commander will help in overwatch if charged, though with all the TL missiles from the broadsides I am not sure what will live through a charge. The farseer is there to guide the riptides or pathfinders....I think it is a pretty solid list... what do you think?

The drone controller will only affect the 2 marker drones, which isn't bad, its just not ideal.
The Farseer is kind of out of place here. Twin linking the riptides is nice but since the farseer is on foot it limits where the riptides can be placed, 12/24 inches away.
You might want to consider a couple other options.
Shard of Anaris for the farseer will allow your broadside unit to be fearless so you can use the missile drones as ablative. Alternatively bike and shard will allow you to attach to a riptide and make it fearless add 2 drones to the riptide and now you have ablative wounds, more shooting, and are fearless as a unit.
You might want to consider FNP on the commander instead of the shield, just LoS the str 10 shots.
I think your going to suffer a little bit in the troop category, you don't have overwhelming fire power of the min/maxxed tau lists have but you still have the troop weakness.
Lastly what exactly is the Ethereal there for?

I think the drone controller will work for all the drones in the squad which would be the squad he is in. I agree with the farseer on foot I would rather have him on bike, but don't have the points.
The ethereal is there for many reasons - one to make units near him have his LD as well as stubborn as well as the universal abilities he give to FW and kroot. I think he is a good unit.

By my math, you have almost 50 points unspent. Consider dropping the expensive shield generator from your commander for vector retro thrusters, just in case something does assault you. Alternatively, drop a flamer. The farseer has I5 making hit and run easy. Also take the neuroweb jammer. Simply too cheap and too good to pass up.
Since your having the ethereal in the list, get more fire warriors or kroot, maybe a hound for the second kroot squad.
Drop the singing spear from the farseer, as it is rare that it will come up. If something is that close, it is either dead, or you are.

I will have to do my calculations again. I ike your suggestion for the kroot hound for the second kroot squad - I was looking for 5 points and that is better spent than the spear I agree.
Question though you do not think the invuln is worth it? I thought for non-instant death things I thought it would be good to risk the invuln on save if needed as I thought I would stick him out front with drones behind him to take look out sirs... I am interested on your thoughts on that.. Thanks for your input

The invul would be worth it if it did not cost as much as it did. Having it is nice, but you can just put the sides in cover and that fixes most problems. Few weapons are Ap2 and ignore cover. Fewer still are ones that do that and instakill. Those that do will usually be close range or few enough you can take em out before they kill you.
Also, if the commander takes 1-2 wounds not a huge deal. A compromise option would be to take stim injectors. Your going to LOS instagib weapons anyways, but you still have a chance against AP2, and feel a bit better about tanking saves in case your dice hate you and you start rolling ones.
