Greetings. Just wanted to say hello, it's my first time on a wargaming forum. I'd been into the fluff and models for a while but I figured it's time, seeing as I have the books and rules, to learn how to play. So, having convinced by nerdy best friend to also join me, the last...year I guess, we have steadily amassing our armies. I'm way more into it than him, and I love making lists. Ah, I'm rambling. Essentially I've joined the forum to get more in tune with the community, and see if this latest list of mine would hold up against his Orky Army led by the Thraka. Have a look at the list, general strategy is underneath. (Of course, the best laid plans and what not...)
HQ. Librarian level 2 with force sword and storm bolter. 95 (goes with Sternguard in drop pod)
Troops. 10 man Tactical squad with flamer and heavy bolter, drop pod. 190
10 man Tactical squad with meltagun and multimelta, Rhino. 195
10 man Tactical squad with flamer and multimelta, Rhino. 190
5 man scout squad with 4 sniper rifles and a heavy bolter, camo cloaks. 77.
Elites. 1 Ironclad Dreadnought with Powerfist and storm bolter, Seismic hammer and meltagun, drop pod. 170
9 man Sternguard squad with 2 combi flamers, 2 combi plasmas and a heavy flamer, drop pod. 293
Fast Attack. Stormtalon with skyhammer missiles. 125
Heavy Support. Whirlwind. 65
Thunderfire cannon. 100.
1500 points altogether.
Well, the army is split down the middle, both tactically and points wise. The main focus of this list is to force him to concentrate so much on his own deployment zone that he has to leave the middle and my side of the board clear, allowing me to move up unmolested. The Ironclad and the tactical squad with heavy bolter drop down turn one and target his battlewagon and /or big units. Sternguard and Librarian come down after these in support of the deployment zone attack. I know for a fact he has very, very little (save Ghazghkull himself) that can hurt the ironclad, and the drop pods will hopefully give cover to the tacticals from the majority of his boys. Ultimately these units cause as much damage as possible but are ultimately there to distract for as long as possible, while the second half of the army take objectives. The scout squad camps base, tacticals 2 and 3 move up to take objectives and support the drop pods, and the whirlwind, thunderfire and stormtalon take care of the boys and elites respectively...
That's my plan anyway. Fluff wise I'm an Iron Hands Successor, so invulnerable saves and IWND should help the infantry and dread too.
So that's the list... advice and opinions would be awesome. And... yeah... glad to be here! I'll post this list on the list review page as well.
