Howdy Dakkanauts, I'm looking to get into Warmahordes and was wondering what faction would suit me most. I really like Jacks and some of the more heavy infantry. I am fine with doing either hordes or WM. I'm not really interested in Cryx or the new faction, the main hordes army I like is Circle with the Wolds.

There are a few good links to help you slightly understand the factions on a basic level.

The two main Jack Factions are Menoth and the CoC. But you don't like the CoC so its just Menoth up for consideration. Menoth has mixed heavy infantry. Bastions are the only good actual Heavy Infantry they have, Cinerators are really sub-par for the same cost. They also have plenty of normal infantry that hits like heavy infantry. This ranges from pow9 weapon master Errants to pow11+ weapon master Knights Exemplar. Bastions are pow12 weapon masters. So basically light, medium, and heavy infantry that all hits like heavy infantry.

On the Horde's side of things, Skorne does heavy infantry the best. While also having really powerful beasts.

Circle doesn't really do heavy infantry. Even their "heavy" infantry are on the light side. They are a hit and run glass cannon faction.

Menoth runs the most Warjacks effectively because they have tons of Jack support, and casters with above average Focus stats as well as helpful spells. And ways to give more focus out.

Things that help them do this,

Choir. They are basically the auto-include for Menoth. They can either protect the Jacks from shooting or spells, or empower them to hit harder and more accurately.

Vassals. These guys a right behind Choir on the list of things you must purchase. They can either allow your jacks to make an extra attack, or make a short movement when damaged by an enemy attack(a quick escape)

Reclaimers/Sanctifiers. Reclaimers collect the souls of dead Menite soldiers and uses them to give your Jacks Focus. the Sanctifier is a Warjack that does the same thing but only for itself.

Avatar. He's a character Warjack that generates his own Focus. Meaning you have a heavy that needs no input from the Warcaster, meaning more Focus for other stuff. Plus he hits with one of the highest, and most accurate, pow attacks in the game. And because he's a jack he can benefit from Choir and Vassals.

I've been thinking about purchasing him http://privateerpress.com/warmachine/gallery/khador/warcasters/kommander-harkevich and running Khador.

Well, Khador is NOT a Warjack faction. They really run the least amount of Jacks possible. 2 Warjacks is what Khador would consider Jack heavy.

You'll usually end up running 1 warjack, maybe 2, and then a bunch of Khador's amazing infantry.

I'm not really a huge fan of the Menoth Jacks

You know, now that I play khador I find this really depressing :( I own like 6 warjacks and only ever run 3 at the most. Oh well :(

Then Hordes is probably better for you.

Circle is a good faction(they all are) but they aren't brawlers. They are the hit and run faction.

But you can run a list focusing on Wolds which are very durable, but slow. Baulder is the caster for that.

Yeah if I did Hordes that is exactly what I was thinking.

Yes, especially in Butcher's tier list which runs >9000 Doomreavers.

Well, it's worth pointing out that even though most factions don't run many jacks, the jacks still have a lot of battlefield presence--they're big impact pieces in most lists.

Orks - "Da Rust Gitz" : 3000 pts
Empire - "Nordland Expeditionary Corps" : 3000 pts
Dwarfs - "Sons of Magni" 2000 points
Cygnar - "Black Swan" 100 pts
Trollbloods - "The Brotherhood"
Haqqislam- "Al-Istathaan": 300 points
Commonwealth - Desert Rats /2nd New Zealand 1000 points

I'm planning on running around 35pts. I think that was compared to 40k 1500pts.

Nah, 50 pts is more comperabe IMO. That's an average game.

Not so sure on that. What with the "points creep" that seems to be getting into 40k these days. It seems like 2000 (or "1999+1" ridiculousness) is the "standard game" these days.

35 is somewhere between 1000 and 1500, enough for a balanced army, but not enough to take everything you want. 50 is what most people seem to focus around, more than that is getting into Apocalypse (warmachine does have an apocalypse set of rules too, but they don't seem that popular). 15 is like 500 points, and battle-box games are kill team

The reason I say that is because most people play using the tournament packet, and most tournaments are 50 pts.

Even if you don't go to them people you play with probably do so that will dictate the game sizes.

Totally fair, I was comparing based on how building the lists seems to feel. Building a 35 point warmachine list always seems to leave me at the end thinking "well, this list is pretty much where I want it, if only I had 10 more points..."

Tournaments are pretty much universally 50 though. Although people at my LGS seem to be "causal friday" Warmachine players and just throw whatever they want on the table as long as both sides have about the same amount of points. Once saw a 2 vs 2 with 20 points a person. That was kind of fun, one person just brought a Mammoth as his entire force.

I am wanting to go Khador. Do you guys think the 2-player battle set is worth the money if I can split it with someone?

Sure, although you may not end up using the Man'o'wars as much as you would like. Usually Khador lists have WGDS and Widowmakers instead.

Doomreavers are good too of course.

They're not as well rounded as the other choices though.

I want a list that can incorporate a couple jacks as well as some infantry, but I don't want to go too high in points or cost. Trying to find the most cost effective way to do this.
