Fleets:
Renegade Fleet:

Murder Class Cruiser (Marines) LD9
(Lord)
Rabid Wolf
Infidel Class Raider Ld8
Wraith
Iconoclast Class Destroyer Ld6
Spoiler:

Imperial Fleet:
Red Queen
Lunar Class Cruiser
Fleet Commander
Alice
Firesword Class Frigate
The Rabbit
Firesword Class Frigate
Spoiler:

Deployment:

Turn 1
Renegade Turn 1:
Both Frigates out of range of engaging the Swords.
Unyielding Fury fires it’s prow lances, scoring a single hit on the sword, removing its shield.

Imperial Turn 1:
The Red Queen moves around the far side of the planet, trying to flank the Attacking Renegade ships.
Swords move forward to engage their enemies and buy the Red Queen time to catch the enemy.
Rabbit scores a hit on Rabid Wolf, removing it’s void shield, Alice also fires on the Rabid Wolf, but between the blast marker and range, scores no hits.

Renegade Turn 2:
Rabid Wolf creeps forward, slowed down by the blast marker, Wraith cuts off to the right of it’s sister escort ready to pour fire into the Alice.
Unyielding Fury pulls in close to the Rabbit, bringing its massive weapons batteries to bear on the escort.
Rabid Wolf fires in retilation on the Rabbit, tearing it’s shields down with it’s modest weapons battery. TheUnyielding Fury’s cascade of firepower pounds the lesser ship into fragments, fire dances across her hull as she is torn apart.
The Wraith fires upon Alice, ripping her shields down, leaving her exposed to the prow lance batteries of the Unyielding Fury, which again shatters the smaller vessel, the beams slicing through the frigate, leaving her to drift as nothing more than a hulk.
Both frigates are now dead, having rolled a four for removing blast markers, all blast markers have been removed.

Imperial Turn 2:
The Red Queen fires upon the Rabid Wolf, the gun batteries tearing down the smaller craft’s shields. However the Red Queen’s lances fail to hit the smaller frigate. The wave of Torpedoes wash forth, all of them make it through the blast maker, one crashes into the frigate. The defensive turrets fail to intercept the incoming ordnance and it crashes head long into the craft. Sending explosions rippling through the ships frame.
Imperial Player rolls 6, removing all of the blast markers

Renegade Turn 3:
With the loss of the Rabid Wolf, both ships rush forward, using the planet as cover as the move to loop around to catch the more ponderous imperial cruiser.

Imperial Turn 3:
The Red Queen gives chase after her faster prey. The large planet that is being fought over blocking her guns from finding a clean shot upon her prey.

Renegade Turn 4:
Both ships continue to circle around the planet.

Imperial Turn 4:
Tired of trying to chase the faster craft, the Red Queen begins to turn to face the attackers.

Renegade Turn 5:
The Unyielding Fury pulls around bringing her guns just barely into maximum range, while the Wraith screams forward to burry it’s batteries into the cruiser in hopes of removing at least a few of the larger craft’s shields.
Even combined the two ships are only able to remove the shields from the Imperial Cruiser.

Imperial Turn 5:
The Red Queen slowed by traveling through the wake of the spent energy of its shields, the cruiser burns away from the fight.

Renegade turn 6:
The Wraith is not yet ready to let the Imperial cruiser flee without some vengeance vented upon her. It’s weapon batteries once more claim a shield. Again the range prevents the Unyielding fury from landing a blow.

Imperial Turn 6:
Out flanked and out gunned the Red Queen flees unscathed from the combat, leaving the planet and the burning wrecks of her escorts behind.

Renegade Victory!

Our first attempt at BFG, and while only a 300pt game, we both enjoyed it. The rules are taking a little getting use to, but its started to run smoother closer to the end as we started to figure them out.
Sorry for the lack of pictures guys, hope you enjoy it all the same, as a few turns did go without pictures being taken.

Nice, those escorts are pretty fragile tho so its usually best to keep them behind your cruisers. On the smaller ships you should combine your firepower too so they don't suffer from shooting through their own blast markers.

I don't make the rules, I just think them up and write them down.

Yep, I learned the hard way in the only game of BFG I ever played that sending in your lighter ships first "to soften up the opponent" is a really bad idea (it works that way in a lot of games interestingly enough, made the same mistake in Battletech too).

Well in battletech throwing your light mechs forward is the idea, but you have to have the right mechs for the job, and the right mechs backing them. Pair up Spiders and circle of death the slower heavy mechs while your big boys pound them from a distance. Clan Mechs are a whole different beast, and while I try to stick to zellbrigen, its quickly broken when my opponent hits the same mech from a few different sources, which of course lets me return in kind and leave my clanner pride mostly intact . I may have to get a small game of CBT in, as I finally got my hex maps back in hand.

And back to the subject of spaceships,
While the lighter ships did get stuck in first, the cruiser wasn't far behind them, I am really liking the speed and matched fire power of the Chaos ships, I skipped out on taking a Slaughter Class Cruiser and I wanted to kick myself for it. That extra 5cm would have been nice, next time there will be one in my fleet to run and gun, maybe even strike first blood of the match. Of course I have a Repulsive Grand Cruiser and a Despoiler Battleship calling me as well and those two will be hard to ignore for long.

Well, in the battle I was referring to I kind of ran the lights straight at them, which lead to them taking A/C20s to the face... moving small stuff up can be a good idea, but not if you move straight towards them, then you just give them the leisure of blowing your stuff up one at a time

300 points and 3 ships

Is this a typical game? I found a fleet of Ork ships (1 capital, 6 escorts I think) going cheap, would be cool to know if this is enough for a game

Awesome to see some BFG being played! I must try and dig out those old Chaos ships I had.

I just received the BFG Boxed set, won an auction for the Retribution and Despoiler Battleships and then bought 4 Kiorla Tau escorts...needless to say I am trying to revive the game where I'm at.

Post more battle reps when you have time!

Ouch, well no worries better light mechs than assault mechs . I personally love the big mechs, but those lights can be all but bullet proof so to speak when they move full out. Just stay away from woods and elevation, and keep them away from pulse boats, more so the clan ones they come with targeting computers.

@Dakkamite
I wouldn't say this is a typical game, it was intentionally small to help keep it fast paced and get the two of us into the game.
I would say a good fleet, if you don't want to be able to switch out ships, would be 3-4 capital ships, 3-4 of your favored escorts and a battleship, and a grand/light cruiser at your desire. I know I am waiting for another Repulsive or two to become more affordable, those are some mean ships that and a Grand Cruiser for my imperials. Also pick up some fighters and bombers, as to be honest I like escorts but after digging around for a while the consensus is that ordnance(Fighters&Bombers) even with the nerf to them are still better than escorts.

@foto69man
Nice buy! those things are not cheap in the least.
Good luck man, I picked up an Emperor for the Imperials recently, not the battleship I wanted originally but its a nice center piece all the same and it can pump out the waves of bombers and fighters.
I will get on that as soon as I can, I have a Imperial light cruiser on its way, once I get it on a base I'll have to give it a try against the repulsive.

Yes, you can play BFG from 250pts and upwards. However, the typical value for a normal battle is 1500pts.
But if you start with 300 and like it you can add more ships now and then, slowly building a full fledged fleet.

They weren't too expensive, at least to me...Once I get them in I'll post some pictures up, probably in my blog(shamless plug below) or throw one up here if that's ok?
