Just tossing a possible idea out for general feedback. I was thumbing through the C:SM dex and spent some time pondering the Iron Hands and their special rules. While the 6+FNP alone isn't enough to really make me salivate, the idea of cyberpunk metal-over-meat marines is kind of cool.

I'm kicking around the idea of a home-brew chapter following that particular chapter rule. Maybe some kind of archeotech relic hunters that have gone renegade, having run afoul of the Inquisition or the Mechanicus, either for having found something they shouldn't have.. or maybe just showing too much of an interest in things that aren't their business. I'd definitely like to keep the pirate/raider aspect alive in there somewhere.

Off hand, I immediately see them in bronze, brown, red, and black as colors. Make everything look splotchy, soot and oil-stained with hints of rust and rivets everywhere.

Right now I'm just looking for general feedback and ideas for background fodder - ways to plug them into the universe and make them more interesting. Anything is appreciated.

The Steel Confessors Chapter was actually created secretly by the Adeptus Mechanicus for their own uses/protection. Perhaps that wasn't the first time the AM did that. Maybe they didn't get caught the first time - which was when your Chapter was created.

I see that Chapter having been founded secretly for the same reason the Steel Confessors were. Except that your Chapter took too much of an interest in hunting Archeotech, maybe even getting and trying to utilize xenos technology. Viewed as heretical by the AM, the tech-priests tried to secretly wipe out the Chapter so that they could try again. Your chapter, instead of just taking it, decided to escape and are now renegades.

The cool twist could be that the IoM doesn't know about their existence. Or just say they are known to some Imperial Adepta, but there are zero records of their founding (for obvious reasons) - and that alone is not that uncommon.
