Is it better to give Honour Guard power axes or relic blades? Everyone seems to give them one of the other. And what should the Chapter Champion be equipped with?

The best option is probably a mix.... I'm building mine with Halberds, so I can do either or!

How do you plan on differentiating which halberds are axes and which are relic blades? Also, any cool halberd bits you're using?

I'd assume GK halberds would work fine.

And also, wouldn't be better to just give then all axes then? The codex still says Relic Blades can be either Swords or Axes...

I doubt Ill be mixing; I'm a fan of cheapness. I plan on taking more guard rather than loading up the ones I have. If I find im lacking ap2, it'l be axes. Else; counts as swords.

I agree, i think the real power of honor guard is ridiculous amount of power weapon attacks, not their AP value. I may have a few with power axes in the back but i think the majority of them will be simple power sword users. I want to use them to utterly obliterate an enemies back line and rarely will they be running into terminators on purpose. If anything they will be primarily threatening dev squads, masses of FW, Vaul batteries, and artillery vehicles. In all likely hood if something with alot of 2+ starts chasing my honor guard I would probably switch to boltguns and shoot them down with mass fire instead of letting them get slaughtered by thunder hammers.

I'd run mix of axes and mauls. Axes for ap and mauls for +2 str and concussive.

Example build:

10x HGs, champ with combo axe/sword (it's free and gives him options in a challenge), then I'd do 3 axes, 6 swords and the chapter banner. That's 51 attacks on the charge, 15 of which at S5, AP2 (assuming the champ uses his sword). Add CM with Burning Blade and a Chaplain for lolz...

How can you give the Chapter Champion both an Axe and a Sword? The book only says you can exchange his pistol for a "Close Combat Weapon." I assume that only means like a chainsword or a small blade...

Axes, mauls and relic blades all together, gives you a lot of options.

Has anyone taken an Honor Guard with Pedro? Seems like it makes sense with the +1 attack buff. I use drop pods so I figure drop them in first and try to hide them, then go at it. Like 3 Guard with mixed power weapons and the Champion. Seems legit.
