I have a unit of CC scouts whose purpose, way back when, was to outflank and assault some unsuspecting back line unit and generally cause havoc. It worked great and I love my models, which is why it pains me to see the on the shelf collecting dust. Is there a good way to use them now? I have some CC crusader models, do you think it's worth it to toss a 19/20 man blob led by a chaplain as BT allies into my list?

Or just get a land speeder storm and have them jump out and assault a squad as a surprise.

I find them great at being in bolter squads. Do a them man with 6 bolters and 4 CC and keep the CC guys in the back so when you lose cassulities the bolster guys go first

Check out my battle reports at http://www.youtube.com/user/theblessing8386/videos and see the models you trade me duke it out!

Running them in a crusader squad with a chaplain seems like a nice idea, it gives you another fairly cheap units that can't be ignored as if the enemy doesn't kill them they will tear stuff apart. 20 models gives you pretty decent survivability, and that means you can either use the 3+ up front to make the whose squad more survivable against small arms, or keep the scouts in front to make sure the initiates get to CC. Either way is good.

I'm not a fan of the LSS idea as you can only put 5 scouts in, which isn't really enough unless you plan on using them in a combined charge with ASM or VV. That said, it could be a nice way to take a pop at some backfield artillery or fire support units.

I like scouts in the LSS held back in reserve as long as you can and then hidden. If there's something useful they can do, great, but I would intend them to swoop in on objectives in the late game. Perhaps a combi-flamer, although that could keep you from charging whatever was on the OBJ (hopefully a light unit or forget it.

I think just getting into Rapid Fire range is what they're about nowadays? Come in on rear armor chucking Kraks and blasting Combi-Melta maybe? You can still "alpha strike" close combat scouts out of storm speeders, but it basically takes your enemy moving into range for it, so it should probably never happen if they're smart about it? Even then, with Overwatch that might not be that great a plan anymore now anyway?

Well, I prefer bolter scouts. I did even back in 5th ed, however, the OP was asking about his CC scouts so I was trying to work with those Seem even cooler if sons of Dorn with the more accurate bolters etc.

Lss isn't too bad of an option now.
My main beef with cc scouts was WS 3. That meant most targets were hitting them on 3s. I felt the shotguns were better as they caused more wounds for less chamce of retaliation.
However, the change to the cerberus launcher has made them worthwhile for me as it causes blind. If it succeeds, then you are hitting on 3s whereas tbey are hitting on 5s. The bonus attack is butter in this situation

So bolt pistols and knives, charge some unexpected poor schmuck. remount run and hide right?

Its a game, have fun. If you arent for some reason...find a new one.

Ya. The speeders are frail though. Outflanking is great with that.If you feel that you are gonna be on the tail end of deep strikers . Keep your lss on the board. Its a 12" bubble for the double deep strike dice. Then tbey act as counter charge but make sure what you are charging meets the following criteria

1. They are terrible in assault

2. They don't have ap 4 shooting as wounds from overwatch will turn the tides with such a small unit size.

I think the real purpose of CC scouts is to be in a LSS and pop out of reserves late game to try and take an objective. The CC is important here as shooting is usually negated by GtG in ruins by the units on such objectives.

The other interesting thing they can do is to infiltrate+scout to 18" from something early game and try for a bottom of turn 1 assault. This can be really nice against some opponents but this is a side benefit.

I could see Tigurius manipulating the reserves to keep a couple of LSS scout squads back as long as possible (and they're only 100 points a piece woo), then wooshing them in late game, possibly activating your assault doctrine to make sure they get where they're going too. With the cerberus launcher, you may do alright.
