Dear all,

I plan on promoting my great crusade to being led by the big man himself, but I am not 100% sure on the official model.

It has it's strengths, and I like the close-leg walking pose, but he looks like the sculptor made that rookie mistake of thinking terminator shoulders would look good on a PA model! I would also definitely give him a head swap for a helmet, and paint him black, as many I have seen on the web do. The plus side is he does fit in well with the SB models that I will be using as his honour guard.

On the pricey end of what I have considered is the Legion Praetor:

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/The_Horus_Heresy/Legiones_Astartes/Space_Marine_Legion_Army_List/Legion_HQ/LEGION_PRAETORS.html

I would greenstuff a templar cross in the centre of his breastplate (I use these awesome instamolds to make GS casts of plastic bits from the templar upgrade sprue so it would look tidy) and swap his gun for a stubby combi-melta, probably in the pre-heresy terminator style of placing the two guns side-by-side rather than on top of each other.

On the budget end is a kitbash of my remaining templar bits.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this, or better yet, any other suggestions for a model?

I think the preator will need a load of bits to look ligh a BT High marshal. What plans do you have?

Well like I say just a GS symbol on the chest and perhaps shoulder, plus a weapon swap.

I thought about a tabard and/or cape, but the model is just gaaaawjus, and it would be a sin to do too much to it, especially covering it up under cloth. Maybe a few more purity seals here and there but that would be it.

If I decided he needed more I would probably just base him off a cheaper model.

I don't ever use the GW models for characters... I don't know why, I just don't. Usually I just take a standard model and bitz-blitz it until I have something that could be identified as the character in question, but at the same time looks nothing like it.

Yeah, I get that, it's always nice to put a personal touch on characters, even named ones. Especially as the BRB actually states they are now "me" and "you": our avatars on the ground. Which I love.

I guess what I am really fishing for here is suggestions for such models to base it on, before I shitz bitz all over itz.

Another thought was the masters of the chapter ones, Those are nice.

Those are awesome yeah, not quite the aesthetic I am going for, but thank you for the response.

Depending on how much conversion you're prepared to do, what about kharn for a base? add a templar helmet, scrape off the scars symbols/heads and then add CM and templar icons

Interesting man, and just the sort of inspiration I am looking for. I am getting pretty decent with my scalpel and greenstuff, and certainly don't lack ambition on this project, but the base model would need to offer me a fair bit to start with.

Kharn is interesting, but pretty old, the pose is quite static, and it seems like with the ammount of Chaos stuff I would be taking off there wouldn't be much reason left to have chosen him.

I would be interested to hear if you had anything else to say about why he would make a good base for helbrecht though. You said what to remove, but what about him would you keep? The chains are good, but the bare arm seems a bit unsuitable.

If you like the Mk-II-ish style of Helbrechts armour (See his legs) you could try one of the HH Mk-II Despoiler squad marines.http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Space_Marines/Space_Marine-Infantry-and-Accessories/LEGION_MK_II_DESPOILER_SQUAD.html

Additionally, you could sculpt a cloak, maybe Switch the helmet for one of the BT helmets or one of the three from the Venerable Dreadnought sprue. The only Problem I see could be the cross, but you could solve this Problem with a sculpted tabard and some freehanding?

I think they are not to the same scale as gw models.

iirc scibor space marine type models are more truescale size.
