Subject: Should I get a Primarch?
|

Neophyte Undergoing Surgeries

I have a fairly good sized Space Marine army, and I take pride in trying to have unique models in my armies, and recently I have been looking at the Forgeworld Primarch models, cause what is more unique than that! Either Angron or Fulgrim would work for me, but I'm not sure which or even if I should get one. I dont have either World Eaters or EMperor's Children armies, but the models would be super amazing to have as stand ins, but I'm having some inner conflict on it, cause I don't really need either of them for my army, as I sometimes use my Chapter Master as a stand in for a Primarch. What do you guys think?

I like having showcase models in my armies. Often they are frivolous pieces that rarely, if ever, see table time, but they add flavor to my armies and are therefore justified for the uniqueness they bring to the table (figuratively speaking).
Before dropping the money on an expensive Forge World model ask yourself the following questions:
1: Can I afford to buy this model?
2: Is there anything else that I need for my army that will bring me more pleasure/utility?
3: Will this model add to my army's story?
4: Will I be able to use this model in games?
4.a: If I cannot use this model in regular games will that matter to me?
Depending on your answers to those questions you should have a better idea of whether or not splurging on a special model might be worthwhile.
Personally, I'd get Fulgrim. That is one badass model.

I would say go for it. I've painted both models and found that angron was easier as far as a build goes. That's only because fulgrim has a number of very small parts on him that are easily broken when cleaning the flash off. Of course that's only if difficulty matters to you. Also angron's base stays together without the use of magnets.

Do you want it? Is it enough value for the price? Do I have the money? Is there anything else for my army I should get instead?
Now you should have your answer.

Are you playing a first founding chapter? They are very nice models, but there are a lot of nice looking things out there. I wouldn't just grab a random primearch, just because. But when they release -my- primearch, the true temptation will start.
These guys aren't just generic captains you should drop into your army. They are unique characters loaded with story, fluff, and baggage.
But if you want to paint one for display, go for it!

The new Ferrus Manus model is absolutely, mind bogglingly stunning. Its not up on the site yet, but there's a preview in the News section, something like Page 12 of the FW thread. Check it out, cause its amazing.

If you want a primarch just for the sake of having a pirimarch then I'd just wait until a few more are released - that way you can choose one you actually are interested in.
I guarantee that if you purchased one of them now, you'd end up seeing one you like even more in a few months time.
The bust of horus looks great so far and you have primarchs like perturabo and curze who with a decent pose can be stunning.

one of the glorious things about FW models are their resale value. If you get a primarch and get fun out of making, painting and then gaming with him - when it comes to parting a'la ebay you will only probably lose about £10 unless your a pro painter and then gain.
i dont think you can lose out by getting one at all. I'm going balls deep with ad mech - i hope they get a primarch equivalent!

What's the point of asking us lol.. If you want one, get it, if not then who cares what we think.
Do you play the Heresy rules? Then all of them except Angron are good. I do not think they are good standins considering they are bigger and are just so unique that it would be a bad choice as a "counts-as"
Remember, chapter masters are just space marines but a Primarch is very different.

I dunno. Angron has been pretty Nasty in the 3 games we've used him in.

He's an utter beast! He can slaughter pretty much anything he fights. The only real issue with him is his piss poor save for a primarch I mean 3+ armor? Not great...

aghhh! it wasnt a recast was it? i know the quality varies and you can get good ones but as FW and the HH series is driven by the amount of money in retail - if you want to see more you should make best effort to buy an original.
I bought a recast once - it was crap quality and have never done it again - i only saved about 15% off the FW original - never again!
