Not sure if anyone else noticed this yet but, when I looked up at Imperial Guard's units (at Game Workshop's homepage), I noticed that there weren't any Rough Riders anymore. Searching for them only gives an result of a 40K Epic scale ones. I'm not familiar with how Games workshop actually behaves so, I'd like to ask from you who have more experience with their policies... what has happened and why?

I only have three theories: 1. They removed the models all together due to low amount of purchases. 2. They removed the models so they could make new better ones (my favorite, ofc depends on what they consider as better (if I'm asked then multi-part-plastic sets). 3. They will be replaced by something in later arriving codex?

As I said before: I have no knowledge on the corporation's policies, so I cannot say which one is the most likely scenario. Feel free to comment and add own theories and please help a poor, confused girl out. xP

They've been moved to elites.

Hah just kidding. Yeah they're gone for me too.

The plural of codex is codexes.

I don't have the painting skill to do those justice and I fear they are a bit to fragile to play with on a regular basis, but yeah, they are fantastic models!

The NZ page still has them. I guess our allocation is still buried in a warehouse somewhere...

One could get the impression that GW wants to get rid of metal models.

You can still see them? Weird. I still find nada. If you have time could you check after week or two if they are still there? (I'm just curious)

Well it would give much needed space to swift tanks and flyers (if rough riders would be elites instead). Would be cool (IMO) and while listening how much people complain about other elites... they would perform roughly at same level: Poorly.

Well to be honest, I dislike metal models to extreme. I only have one metal model in my army (Tau Ethereal) and I say that I will never want more of them. However what would be nice to know is that... would they be replaced by plastic models or are they removed as a whole?

So am I, if new Rough Riders are potentially in the pipeline. I'll do battle with my often-mediocre short-term memory and try and remember to check.

The lesser-selling (metal) miniatures are going away from and coming back to the store all the time. Sisters are experiencing a similar phenomenon every half a year or so, leading to confusion and fear of unavailability every single time. I'm guessing it's simply a delay between having sold all remaining stocks of a given miniature, and receiving a new batch of freshly cast replacements - likely because they don't store as many of the metal minis as they do of the more contemporary (and better selling, due to being more of a "core" product) plastics.

Check back in a month or two.

PS: metal minis ftw! At least they feel like you're actually holding something powerful in your hands.

Ahh... so they are more like either out of stock or delayed (so to say)? Fair enough. Also explains a thing or two while at it. Also thanks for references and information about sisters, as it gives at-least some heading on what actually is going on. I'll check them up after month or two then, as you requested.

Well, I can't promise anything, of course - but this has been my experience when it comes to miniatures disappearing from the store so far.

There have been cases where minis were replaced by newer versions or Finecast models, but this seems to happen less often, and more to armies that are either more popular (Space Marines) or receive a complete makeover (Dark Eldar). IG itself is popular, but I'm not sure whether I would regard Rough Riders as part of the main line ...

Anyways, if you're looking for Rough Riders, feel free to browse the other stores (there often are regional differences when it comes to stocked items), or check the various other options such as ebay etc. Good luck!

Well GW has removed some of the specilist metal models, so you could expect that.

Okay, so subtle remarks don't work here.

For 2 years, GW is getting rid of all metal models. For some time, they were rereleased in Finecast, but now even Finecast models get less and less, with rarely a new Finecast model and no more conversions from metal to Finecast.

Since a few months, GW policy is to not even renew rubber moulds for metal models once the current ones wear out. As a result, most Specialist Games and collector models are gone.

That is why for 2 years, you find this forum cluttered with "metal miniature X disappeared" threads.

Specialist Games, yes. But a lot of Collector's stuff has simply moved, such as the Valhallan and Mordian infantry etc that went back into "Imperial Guard -> Troops".

Now, I can only talk from experience as a SoB player - perhaps it's different from us - but while I can attest to seeing the forum cluttered with "X disappeared" threads, it also just so happens that it was just a matter of time until they reappeared.

Latest example here.

How likely is it that Rough Riders(!) would disappear completely or get replaced by Finecast? I'd say not very. They are too important to go away completely (still a unit in the currently legal Codex), yet not important enough to justify recreating them.

Sorry, I'm but a naive girl so being subtle doesn't always work. I wasn't intentionally ignoring your sentence, more like I found it really hard to answer to (due to being only one sentence long and made in hinting manner). I don't mind if they reduce the metallic model count and thankfully as Lemartes12 and many others have said and shown (across this site) that Rough riders can be made from alternative sources (if that is proxying or not that I do not know). What worries me is the possibility, that hence there are no models, could it be that they are left out from new codex? Well we'll see when it comes out then.

I... really doubt that Rough Riders would gain such an honor. I'm not utterly sure but, isn't Finecast normally reserved for the heroes and HQ choices? Elites and some other that are supposed to be "cooler" or "better" fluff-wise(/stat-wise)? Can't say much about sisters as they are currently completely in metal. So it might (sadly) be different case in this scenario.
