I've been playing assault heavy armies my entire 40k career with assault chaos and daemons and nids. So I'm now wanting to create a gun line style army but I don't want it to be tau. There is far too much tau in my local meta. Anyone have any ideas it doesn't have to be very competitive. I was thinking space marines allied with space marines with 2 units of shooty temi's and 2 thunderfires. Any suggestions?

Imperial Guard will probably offer the next best gunline after Tau

Dark angels have some pretty nasty builds with the banner of devastation which put out an insane amount of fire.

Francium I don't think that the banner build really works because no one wants to get within 24" because they know about it. And I know imperial guard are very good I just don't want to be painting that many models.

Imperial guard and chaos do some pretty decent gunlines to my knowledge

They might not be the best, but there are a few options in the basic SM codex for gunlines.

If you want to throw a lot of dice;

45 Lootas, 3 Dakkajets, and 9 Kannonz.

Orks and IG are definitely armies that can put out serious firepower.

To mention C:SM, IF with Devastator Squads can put out a lot of Tank Hunting shots. If you also put a Quad Gun/ADL there, manned by Devs, you can add 4 TL, S7, Tank Hunting shots. IH get IWND on their vehicles, so those Predator Annihilators and Vindicators go farther for their points, especially if backed by Techmarines/MotF.

I think I'm gonna go for codex space marines imperial fists.im going to include 2 Morris contemptors with twin linked lass cannons and cyclone missile launchers with sky fire. Then some thunder fire cannons for horde control and some tactically to hold the line.

And that's why you get a bolterbanner army, with IG allies for a single vet squad, and an artillery team.
Get close, bolterbanner death.
Stay away, free artillery shots.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.
