Subject: Avatar of Khaine + Grotesques?

A question for all you Eldar/Dark Eldar players out there: My friend requested I consider building a second army, mainlyl because he is tired of shooting greenskins all day I don't have the Eldar or Dark Eldar codex, but I have an open source list builder software so I was kicking around some ideas yesterday when I thought about a Craftworld Eldar list with Dark Eldar allies. Has anyone had any success with using a unit of Grotesques to screen/escort the Avatar across the field? Just curious if there were any special list rules prohibiting it or making it unfeasible.
On a similar note - Archons joining a Eldar unit, say, Dire Avengers (since they cap at 10 and have some extra room in the Wave Serpent). Anyone try this already, for good or ill? I was toying with the idea of having a powerful close combat IC joining them while keeping my other HQ slots open for the Avatar and a Farseer on a jetbike to buff the other units.
Share your thoughts! Also if anyone has some killer combos from the two lists I'm overlooking, please illuminate my ignorance.

The Avatar isn't an independent character, so he can't join a squad. You can just shoot him. And just to forestall some of the other answers you're going to get "Dakka isn't a replacement for the codex" Now thats out of the way, people have been allying the Baron (from DE) to a few CE units (Unit gains hit and run from him and a 2++ which you can fortune for the front of the squad and stealth iirc) There's also a thing called the beastpack which people are using, but that mainly uses DE stuff so I 've not looked into it at all. EDIT:I don't think DE things can go in a CE transport either.

Its because ordinance is still a word.
However, firing ordinance at someone isn't nearly as threatening as firing ordnance at someone.
Ordinance is a local law, or bill, or other form of legislation.
Ordnance is high caliber explosives.
No 'I' in ordnance.
Don't drown the enemy in legislation, drown them in explosives. |

Do the allies rules allow you to board a Battle Brothers transport?
I'm sure the rules state you can't in a BB transport, but can they board one later on?
And, if this only applies to units, can an attached IC board, if joined with a proper unit?
You certainly can join an allied IC to a main-force unit (and vice versa), though.
As mentioned, the Avatar isn't an IC, so cannot join a unit. And, being a unit of 1 model, cannot be joined.
The Baron is very good with Harlies, with Phoenix lord or Farseer.

I think the rules said that allies cannot "embark" on your transport [as in mid game].

Battle Brother Allies can't utilize each others transports.
I am a fan of both armies, I happen to like the Dark Eldar more because of the fluff of drug, sex and basically rock and roll. They have a lot of different styles but so do the Eldar.
Dark Eldar are faster with a lot of poison and lance, but their vehicles are wet paper bags (though they have their tricks) Also the army accounts for no real armor on the units.
Eldar has a variety of units, but a overwhelming in each category even though only a handful of the units are viable options right now.

The standard DE ally list into an elder list is the Baron, 2 5 man kabby squad in dakka veoms and a Ravager. This gives a nice fire power boost in places elder don't have (AV 13+ and long range anti infantry) and the Baron is a great utility unit.
I personally am a little different and Run a Beastpack, which is simply amazing. The best deathstar point per wound. I run it with 4 masters, 10 daemon dogs and 4 flocks with the Baron and a Farseer and its brutal. Assured prescience means that I have had this unit rip though everything from Tervigons to guard hordes. They even destroyed a biker nob unit, worth 3x what they where, although I did have prescience and invisibility.

Not sure how well that would work. I prefer to screen the Avatar with a squad of Harlies (including Shadowseer). As it is I don't run allies but it might work. All I can say is it is debatable. It has come up in YMDC a few times and just goes in a circle until the thread gets locked. This is the last thread that came up. I myself am of the opinion that while RAW allows it, it is not the intent of the rule. AFAIK, only one person in the mentioned thread actually plays it as legal. That being said, I'm not going to repeat any of the arguments, as you can read them for youself. Share your thoughts! Also if anyone has some killer combos from the two lists I'm overlooking, please illuminate my ignorance.
The first question is do you want Eldar with DEldar back-up or do you want DEldar with Eldar back-up?

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
