So on one hand, both of my armies got new codices! Yay! On the other hand, everything I had that was good is not the greatest anymore. My crisis suits get outclassed by Riptides, and my masses of combi-weapon sternguard riding BolterBacks actually saw a points increase! Anyway, I bit the bullet and bought two riptides (can't buy 3 because I'm broke) and so here is the list I was thinking about running:
2000 points list
Tau Farsight Enclave:
HQ:
Commander (177)
-2x Plasma Rifle, Target Lock, Talisman of Arthas Moloch, Drone Controller
-2x Markerlight Drones
Elites:
Riptide (210)
-Ion Accelerator, Early Warning Override, Velocity Tracker, TL FB

Troops:
Crisis Team (198)
-3x Suits w/ Plasma Rifle, TL Plasma Rifle
-2x Markerlight Drones

Crisis Team (213)

-2x w/ TL FB, FB
-3x Markerlight Drones
Crisis Team (201)
-1x w/ DC, MP, MP
-2x w/ MP, TL MP
-2x Markerlight Drone
Heavy Support:
Broadside Team (285)
-1x w/ Target Lock
-2x w/ nothing (I wish drone controllers worked with missile pod drones)
-6x MP Drone
Space Marines White Scars
HQ:
Captain (145)
-Artificer Armor, Bike, Power Sword
Troops:
Bike Squad (169)
-4x bikes total, 2x w/ Plasma Gun, +1 MM Attack Bike
Heavy Support:
Thunderfire Cannon (100)
Fortifications:
Aegis Defense Line w/ Quad Gun (100)
The idea is to reserve the crisis suits as necessary and rely on the long range firepower from the riptides and broadsides to get the job done. The broadside with the target lock will man the quad gun, providing a very effect anti-air role, especially when combined with the riptides. Every mission on the list we'll be playing on involves objectives, so my highly mobile scoring troops will be very handy. The riptides can also sit in 3+ cover fortified by the TFC making them last an unbelievably long time, and with their 2+ save I will be willing to jump in and out of ruins at will without fear (1 in 36 chance of taking a single wound is not on my list of worries). I am somewhat concerned about Helldrakes and Wave Serpent Spam, but I can't think of anything else I could field that would be better suited against them. The captain on a bike will soak up all those wounds with his 2+ save and the riptides and ADL can try to bring them down, but they're a bitch to shoot out of the sky. The Riptides plus markerlights should prove effective, especially when I can use the suits to shield the markerlight drones or vice versa depending on what I need, and they can JSJ into and out of cover. I believe they're way more survivable and useful than pathfinders at only an increase of 1 point per model. Plus it sticks with my purely suit/bike army theme. I don't see this being a super competitive tournament, yet I want to stand a good chance. Any ideas?
