Hey guys,

A bit late on getting the codex (only came out this week in Canada), but after thumbing through it, I managed to revise my old 1500 Mech Tau list in the new codex. Apologies if it causes headaches at first glance, I know Tau lists can be a bit overwhelming to read now with the number of toys we can add. Check it out:

HQ
1) Shas'o
- Missile pod, plasma rifle, multi-tracker, hardwired BSF
2) Shas'el
- Fusion blaster, plasma rifle, vectored retro-thrusters, target array, hw multitracker

Elite
1) 6x Stealthsuits
- 1x Fusion blaster
2) 1x XV8 Crisis suit (Shas'ui)
- Team Leader, Twin-linked missile pod, cyclic ion blaster, target array, hw multi-tracker

Troops
1) 10x firewarriors (inc. shas'ui)
Transport: Devilfish
- SMS, Decoy launchers, multi-tracker, target array
2) Same as above
3) 11x Kroot

Heavy Support
1) Hammerhead
- Railgun, SMS, multi-tracker, decoy launchers, target array
2) Same as above
3) 1x XV88 (Shas'vre)
- Advanced Stabilisation System, 2x Shield drones

Basic plan hasn't changed much (long, skip over if you want).

Broadside stays back in cover firing pot shots at anything with an armour value (dreadnoughts are its specialty), with the new ASS and shield drone fix I can now be a bit more flexible with it. Hammerheads do what they do, blowing holes in armour and enemy lines, though I'll have them working together for maximum effect. Kroot remain my favourite distraction unit, hopefully speed bumping some speedy assault troops or trading fire with a unit of scouts. Firewarriors form mobile firebases, with new devilfish upgrades it just spells anti-infantry. Death Rain crisis suit will pummel light armour from afar and support the stealth team (cyclic ion blaster sounds too cool to pass up). Stealth team moves up a flank and harrasses a unit, will work alongside kroot most likely. Shas'el will deepstrike for anti-tank manouvers, and retro-thrusters keep it out of harm's way. Shas'o just keeps on the fire, moving to where help is needed the most.

The one thing about this list is that it does not contain a single markerlight anywhere. I'd love to find a way to include a few, but it seriously limits my mobility wherever I try.

So any comments or thoughts?

One things I'd do for sure is switch up how you have your HQ members equipped a bit. The Shas'o would benefit from the vector's more so that a BS5 'El, since the Shas'o has better close combat stats. I'd make the 'El the plasma/missile/targetting array model and the 'o fusion/plasma/vectors.

Your lone crisis suit can't be outfitted how he is. The TL missile pods take up 2 hard points, the CIB another and the targeting array a fourth. So you'll have to drop one item, I would suggest the TL missiles and just turn it into one missile pod.

The other issue I see is that you only have 2 markerlights in the list. Obviously the new markerlights suggest taking a fair few of them, so I am wondering if there was a reason behind taking so few.

I couldn't really find a place to fit them anywhere on my list (markerlights), my old list didn't include any so I found it a bit hard to include them in here. I was actually thinking about scrapping the marker drones and giving the shas'ui the marker light and maxing out the firewarrior squads.

Thanks for the crisis suit pointer. I will drop one of the missile pods and just throw in something somewhere and probably just upgrade that guy to a shas'vre.

You should buy plasma for the lone broadside and an HW multitracker. he's so resilient you just might as well buy the extra shots, imho.

I thought about adding the plasma and multi-tracker actually, but opted to use the points for a cylic ion blaster (again, it just sounds so cool).

I'm considering just dropping the lone crisis suit and using the points for two more marker drones and the plasma/multi-tracker for the broadside. Would it be worth it? The XV8 was originally intended for mobile back up for the stealth team and kroot, but I've played with just stealth and kroot supporting each other and it was fine. However, 7 AP4 shots isn't something I could give up that easily, except for the markerdrones and plasma.

It'd look something like this:

HQ
1) Shas?o (132)
- Fusion blaster, plasma rifle, target array, vectored retro thrusters, hardwired multi-tracker
 2) Shas?el (97)
 - Missile pod, plasma rifle, target array, hardwired multi-tracker

Elite
1) 6x Stealthsuits (180)

Troops
1) 10x Firewarriors (inc. Shas?ui) (270)
- 2x Marker Drone
Transport: Devilfish
- Multi-tracker, decoy launchers
2) (270)
3) 13x Kroot (91)

Heavy Support
1) Hammerhead (180)
- Railgun, SMS, multi-tracker, target-lock, decoy launchers
2) (180)
3) 1x XV88 (Shas?ui + Team Leader) (100)
- Advanced Stabilisation System, Plasma Rifle, hard-wired multi-tracker
