Hello, I'm in the process of painting my salamanders and whenever I try to paint a solid and smooth base coat of gw screaming skull it enslds up looking like a four year old tried it, how can I fix this? I've tried it primed with black, with white, with no prime, it's just not working.

Prime white and build it up in thin layers is the only advice I can give. Oh and always prime your minis.

Is this via brush or airbrush? Airbrush should give a nice basecoat every time. If it's by brush... have you considered an airbrush? ; p

Screaming skull is bone coloured right? It shouldn't be that hard over a white or grey coat to got a smooth basecoat. Maybe you have a dud pot? I don't have much exp with GW paints though.

Thin light coats is the way to go. Don't try to get it to cover in one go. That way leads to madness.

Thin the paint more. And apply several, 2,3 more maybe, thin coats, making sure to wipe excess paint form the brush to prevent flooding the model.

From black, Zandri Dust is a nice intermediate colour for going to screaming skull.

'Ain't nothing crazy about me but my brain. Right brain? Riight! No not you right brain! Right left brain? Right!... Okay then lets do this!!

I ask why you are using screaming skull for salamanders.
