Looking at running a Slaneeshi cult, Dark Eldar style. Is this combo worth it? I'm new to Daemons but have played against Dark Eldar a few times, and I think despite being Desperate Allies it could work out. If they were Allies of Convenience it would be a good match IMO.

From my limited understanding, you'd be looking at combining a Daemon Flying Circus, general durability and (if main detachment) fast fearless scoring with Dark Eldar dakka, especially for breaking open tanks and melting monsters before they can get close to your own big gribblies.

Warp Storm table might crap all over this though. Wondering what you guys think of this idea

It could work, but unless its purely for fluff choices I don't see why you would do it. DE speed should mitigate one eye open but Dark Eldar don't need fragile hard hitting units, they have those. Maybe if you did it solely for the Daemon prince who would be great, but your paying an awful lot for her. The problem is that they aren't scoring, they aren't durable and what they bring (Anti monstrous creature and anti tank) is something Dark Eldar have in spades. Dark Eldar have far better allies in eldar, since they actually cover up dark eldar weaknesses, rather then emulate them as the slaaneshi daemons do.

Yeah its pretty much for fluff reasons, though fluffy doesn't have to equal rubbish on the table if it can be helped.

I also want something to proxy the Wych and Mandrake models for. They're so damn nice but they are underwhelming on the table.

Harlequins/Banshees/storm guardians and striking scorpions? Add a warlock and spiritseer to the storm squad and even they can become a strong force. Scorpions with the claw are good at everything, but work best at clearing back field holders away. But if your set on slaaneshi daemons, you should go for min troops, herald on steed with huntresses (Fast combat unit akin to a beast pack...although a beast pack is better) and a daemon prince(ess). That way you get a fast combat unit and a great FMC.

I'm not familiar with Eldar... if I could use the Daemon models but Eldar rules and get something... chaos-y I could be down for that.

Wyches as Harlequins in particular look interesting. I remember they had some neat rules back in the day, no idea what they do now though.

Is the Huntress that Slaneesh Cavalry? I've faced that a few times but it always died very quickly to my shooting, too quick to see if it had any neat tricks. Looking at its rules I can't see anything awesome but I'm very unfamiliar with the Daemons codex

I meant if you wanted an ally simply to use your wyches and mandrakes as proxies, you could do it just as well with elder as daemons. Although I personally don't like the wych models that much, but will be sure to pick up some of the new dark elf *sister of slaughter* to proxy as blood brides. The reason I suggested the Huntresses is because they are fast and will divert shots away from the real threat (The daemon princess) while still being a threat themselves. They are also better then normal daemonettes in every way (Much faster with there 12 inch move and d6+6 run move, more attacks, standards) for only a measly 3 points. You lose out on being troops, but since they are desperate allies troops don't matter anyway. I'm not sure if you can take a herald and a prince, but a herald can get a great AP 2 blade, I have a great idea of running this unit on one side, baron lead beast pack on the other with the prince in the middle for some ace 2nd turn assaults. But while fun, it wont ever be over competitive.
