Subject: Stone Necrons?

Has anyone painted their Necrons in a stony style before? I saw a picture once, I believe it was from White Dwarf with a bunch of alternative Necron colour schemes, and there was one that looked like ancient limestone complete with moss/mildew green stuff on it
It was amazing. I nearly started Necrons then and there just because of that. Now that I've got a few Necrons to play with I want to paint them in a similar fashion - anyone done this and have a tutorial or something? I took a look but all I could find was a very, very nice 'swamp Necron' that was a bit too grassy and wet for what I'm trying to do

Depends, what kind of stone you looking to make them look like? I've been told my own lychguard look like I painted them similar to stone. Whether or not that was the intention that was the way they turned out and I kinda just stuck with it since it looked pretty good.
My advice would be to pick a color of rock you plan on replicating, pick a dark base that is similar in shade, give it a wash, and then give it multiple rough drybrushing of lighter shades until you achieved your intended shade.

I think I believe I remember the stone necron you're referring too and I think he was supposed to be more ceramic, than stone.
This isn't the one I had in mind, but may be more in tune with what you're looking for:

Here's a different approach:

WD also highlighted this sort take on them:

Thanks for those links, Kroot! I'll definitely have to add that blog to my project queue.

That one is the 'swamp necrons' I mentioned in the first post.
Thats very nice, maybe even nice enough for me to drop the mossy effect and roll with this. Too bad that site is in... French I think, so I can't get guides from it

Nah, there were 'white ceramic' necrons in WD and in the codex, which certainly look better than silver IMO but not quite as good as the limestone/sandstone effect.
My advice would be to pick a color of rock you plan on replicating, pick a dark base that is similar in shade, give it a wash, and then give it multiple rough drybrushing of lighter shades until you achieved your intended shade.
Alright, I'll give that a go. I've never painted a stony effect before so it should be an interesting experience...
