Now that I have finally decided on Iyanden as the focus for my Eldar army I have been taking a look at getting a unit of Wraithblades. The only thing I am not sure about is whether they should have 2 Ghostswords or the Ghostaxe and Forceshield.

here the breakdown for each

2 Ghostswords
-2 attacks at S6 AP3 at I4

Ghostaxe and Forceshield
-1 attack at S7AP2 I1 due to unwieldy
-4++ invul save

the both have a lot of upside, and I am having a real hard time choosing between them. Optimally I would be able to mix and match a la Assault Teminators, but with Wraithblades they have to all be armed the same.

thoughts?

TBPH, I love the look and role the wraithblades fill, and as an answer to your question I prefer having the initiative since you will rarely need more than S6 in cc. That being said you are just better off taking more wraithguard over the wraithblades imho.

"I have all the powers of Hell at my disposal. Who are you to question me?"

"You stand accused of violence against Iyanden. That your crime has not yet been committed is of no consequence. The sentence is oblivion."

I already have 10 WG with Wraithcannons and 5 with D-Scythes so I have that covered. I figured this would be a good time to add the WBs.

I run a squad of 5 axes as a bunker unit for 4-5 spiritseers. I usually have it right next to a unit of d-scythe guard and swap ICs between the two to maintain unit ratio for toughness. I'm not sure if it's because they're more of a threat and therefore more focused on or if it's due to the extra resiliency from the shield, but almost every game, by the end, the d-scythe squad is wiped and the axe squad is still there to some degree or other.

With axes it's fairly likely, as well, that you'll be able to buff them up to 8 str, which is ID for T4 and means you'll threaten AV14, where as it'll take Twilight AND empower to get swords there, and then only on the charge.

I think that in ever situation but counter-assault you'd be better served using d-scythes instead, where as axes fill a completely different role.
