Man I talk about how big Russia is and how daunting a task it was to fight them and how Barbarossa barely made any headway in actually conquering the USSR and you just took all that reinforced it with iron and slammed it into my face XD
Russia is huge but a lot of it is pretty much wilderness. All the best stuff was in the west.
The Soviets did a good job moving whole factories to the east in order to continue war production. They also were helped with huge amounts of supplies from the western allies.
I read recently that one of the reasons Singapore fell was that they lacked tanks and anti-infantry ordnance as well as enough small arms ammunition and aircraft - all things that the British were sending to Russia.
They won in the end so I guess it was the right decision, tough for the soldiers ordered to surrender to the japs though.
